'Damn engineers! You all think you're so smart, but you couldn't build a rocket if you life depended on it'

You smirked, resting an elbow on the table in front of you

'I built the water system on Farm Station. Think you could do that, mechanic?'

She rolled her eyes 'Forgot they were cocky too. Will you just shut up and help me build this?'

'Fine' you said, pulling your hair into a ponytail. The elastic snapped, and you groaned as your hair fell in waves down your shoulders.

'Shit. Think you could lend me an elastic?'

'Depends. Are you going to stop being an ass?'

You shrugged, and she tugged an elastic off her wrist and handed it to you. You took it, winking at her as you pulled your hair up.

'You know you love me gorgeous'

She rolled her eyes 'Can we work now?'

She brought over the materials from the pod. You raised an eyebrow at the limited supplies laid out in front of you

'You want to make rockets... from this?'

'They don't need to be completely functional, they just need to let the Ark know we're here'

'Alright, show me what to do'

She handed you several parts, explaining what to do with them. You settled into the work, and found yourself enjoying the task. It's been so long since you built anything, they didn't let you keep your job after you were locked up. A few times you caught Raven's eyes flitting over to you, quickly dancing away before you could meet their gaze.

'I know you' you said suddenly, Raven looking up in surprise 'You're the youngest mechanic on the Ark in 50 years, right?'

She smirked '52 actually'

You laughed, nudging her 'And you say engineers are cocky'

She laughed lightly, eyes meeting yours. Suddenly you were nervous, highly aware of the spot your shoulder was touching hers. She dropped your gaze, cheeks reddening slightly.

'That guy, Finn? He's your boyfriend right?'

'Not anymore'

You looked up with interest, heart beating just a little faster. She met your gaze before looking away quickly, picking up a few parts off the table.

'I think that'll be enough to get the rockets in the air. Thanks for your help'

'Anytime'

A few hours later you stood by her as the rockets took off. You looked up in wonder as they shot through the sky, bright streaks of purple against the black night. She turned to you laughing, brown eyes bright.

'We did it!'

You grinned, holding up your hand for a high five. She surprised you with a hug, tight and fleeting. She looked away, blushing. Holy shit, that was awkward. Not that you minded or anything. You took her hand, leading her over to a campfire.

'But the rockets-'

'Bellamy can take care of the rockets, you need to relax'

You let go of her hand as she settled down beside you on the log. You sat in silence for a while, watching the rockets streak through the sky, listening to the explosions of the launch and the cheers of the delinquents around you. You felt so removed, like it was just you and the girl beside you. The beautiful girl with the olive skin and brown eyes, which were now looking into yours. You looked away quickly, cheeks burning. Were you staring? She grinned, leaning back on her arms

'We make a good team'

You smiled 'Yeah, we do. Even with you being a lowly mechanic and all'

She laughed, turning to look at you, eyes shining with the light of the campfire. You spoke at the same time, words tumbling over each other.

'-I think I like you'

'-Do you want your hair tie back?'

Oh shit. The world seemed to halt, everything just... stopped.

'What?'

She groaned, burying her face in her hands

'Fuck, I didn't mean for it to come out like that, I'm sorry'

'No, wait. Really?'

She grimaced, and your face broke into a grin.

'Holy shit. You like an engineer?'

She rolled her eyes, cheeks a bright red 'That's seriously what you're focusing on right now?'

Your breath caught 'You like me?'

'Uh, yeah' she took a deep breath 'Yeah'

You grinned, stomach alive with butterflies.

'I like you too, dirty mechanic'

She laughed, moving closer, her lips just a breath away from yours. Your heart pounded.

'Well that's good because...'

'Because?' you prompted her

She smirked 'Because I do think I'd like my hair tie back'

She tugged the band off your ponytail, just as her mouth collided with yours. Your hair fell in waves around you, and she ran her hands through it, pulling you closer to her. You felt electric, every part of your body tingling, like you'd zap if someone touched you. You pulled back, breathing heavy, and she grinned at you.

'You're hotter with your hair down'

You smirked, pulling the elastic from her hair

'I could say the same about you'

You kissed again under the bright purple light of the rockets in the sky. All your senses were on high alert, the feeling of your fingers in her hair, the sounds of excited voices behind you, and the slight taste of alcohol on her lips. You pulled back, eyebrow raised

'Were you drinking?'

She shrugged, lips tugged upwards 'I knew I wouldn't be able to say it without a little push'

You smiled a little, tucking her hair behind her ear.

'Well lets hope you're not too drunk, I'd like you to remember this in the morning'

'Yeah' she laughed, pulling you closer

'Me too'
