My second day at Fox River and I was already working a late shift. I arrived to work mid afternoon and was assigned to guard one side of the fence to the main yard.

"Hello again, pretty" said a husky voice, I looked over to see the same man with straw like hair leaning against the fence.

"Back away from the fence" I said confidently, showing the man I mean business.

"Oooh calm down lil' girl, old T-Bag ain't gon' cause no trouble" he grinned, his boney fingers gripping tightly onto the fence. I stared back at him, loading the bullets of my gun, showing my authority.

I felt a sense of relief when T-Bag finally walked away. I watched him carefully as he began harassing one of the younger inmates.

"Elise, can you please escort Mr Burrows back to his maximum security cell" I turned around to see Bellick grasping the arm of a very calm inmate.

"Uhh sure?" I responded. The man slightly smiled at me as I began to walk him towards the maximum security building.

"You're new" he spoke. I remained silent, and continued to heard towards the mans cell.
"You don't have to be cold with me, I won't cause you any trouble" he said. He seemed nice enough, but I know from previous experience. Never trust an inmate.

"That's what they all say" I said, as I ushered Burrows back into his cell, locking the door behind him.

-

I've never been so curious about some of the inmates before, I had so many questions. They were nothing like the inmates I had at the female prisons.

"So that Lincoln Burrows, what's he in for?" I mentioned to one of the officers sat opposite me in the staff room.

"Burrows? He's on death row, first degree murder of the Vice President's brother... he's a monster" he replied. "The whole family seems fucked up, his brother is here doing time too, Michael Scofield.

My heart fluttered at his name, Michael and Lincoln were brothers?

"Yeah sounds it" I gulped. "So what is umm... what is Michael in for?"

"Armed robbery, he's a very peculiar guy... the governor has him working on a special project or something? It's all corruption if you ask me" the officer spat as he stood up to make himself a coffee.

A special project? Must have been why Michael was in the governors office on my first day. Interesting.

-

Night fell over the prison as I headed out towards the psychiatric ward, I was instructed to make sure the inmates there remained calm while the prison nurse gave them their required medication. The inmates in this ward wore all white overalls, they were all sat in a large room that looked almost like a kids playroom. There was mess everywhere, paper, pencils and paint, definitely some sort of art class to keep them all amused.

"Now come on Charles, take the pill, you'll feel better" said the nurse to a very paranoid looking guy. He sat shaking nervously, his eyes wide.

"No.... no... NOOOO!" he screamed, slamming his fist on the table, causing more paint to spill over he desk. I stepped closer to him, staring at his face. Hoping my presence will help calm the situation.

"Charles, open your mouth" the nurse spoke. Charles prized his mouth shut and shook his head. The nurse tried to force his mouth open. Charles stood up and raised his fist again. I quickly ran over to restrain him and protect the nurse.

His fist clipped my face.

-

I woke up in what looked like a doctors consultation room. My face was throbbing and my head was pounding. What on earth happened?

"Elise, you're going to be fine, an inmate attacked you" the doctor spoke as he entered the room. It all slowly came back to me, I can't believe on my second day here I'm already in the hospital wing. "Governor has requested you take the rest of the night off".

I slowly stood up and made my way out of the consultant room and into the bathroom. I looked at the bruise that had begun to form on my face. Great.
I washed my hands and headed out into the hall. I looked around to locate the exit, I saw another consultant room opposite with an inmate sat with his back to the door. I found myself staring as he turned around.

It was Michael.

He caught me staring at him, his face full of worry. I looked away quickly, but I couldn't help but glance back at him again. His eyes connected with mine. I suddenly felt the urge to go and talk to him..... No Elise, be professional, he's an inmate, you're an officer....

I looked around to see if anyone was watching me. I slowly walked into Michael's consultation room.

"Fox River got the better of you already?" He asked. My stomach flipped when he spoke. His blue eyes glowed at me, a calming smile spread across his face.

"Umm, yeah.... you could say that" I replied. "I'm actually going home now so I'll just....."

"Stay" he said.

"Look I shouldn't be chatting to you I've got to...."

"Who did this to you?" He interrupted. His eyes looked at my cheek, eyeing up my lovely fresh bruise.

"Oh just one of the psych ward inmates, it happens I'm used to it" I said quickly, ready to rush out of the door.

"Elise Moretti" he said confidently. How did he know my name?

A nurse entered the room swiftly, a clipboard in her hands.

"Good evening Elise, we're all ok in here thank you" she spoke "now Michael I've got your diabetes results...."

I turned around to leave the room, Michael is a diabetic?

"Oh, officer" he spoke, it startled me slightly, I wasn't expecting him to still be talking to me, I turned around a met his charming gaze.

"Yes, Mr Scofield?" I replied, my stomach filled with butterflies just speaking his name out loud.

"See you soon" he winked.
