Hermione left her own room, and headed towards Harry's. She gave a quick knock, and heard a muffled, "Come in."
Hermione looked around, and saw Harry and Ron, sitting on the floor, eating chocolate frogs, playing wizard's chess, and talking about quidditch. It seemed as though neither knew that she entered the room. She made eye contact with Harry, and he gave her a heart-warming smile before turning back to Ron.
"So, they're getting way better because of that new chaser, who was he? Forgot, but...oh, hey, Hermione. What're you doing up here?" Ron asked, biting into another chocolate frog.
"Oh, I, uh, wondered if you two wanted to go down for dinner," Hermione stumbled. She was very close to saying "Harry" rather than "you two." Hermione got Harry's reasoning, though; he wanted to spend as much time with Ron before they told him about their relationship. She didn't mind it, but she still preferred they were alone.
"Yeah, sure. I'm starving," Ron said, getting up.
"You just ate about a hundred chocolate frogs," Harry told him, getting up as well. He seemed to be trying to conceal his laughter. Hermione just rolled her eyes.
"Well I'm still hungry. Let's go!" Ron yelled out, running out the door.
As Hermione stared at the door watching Ron leave, Harry came up behind her and wrapped his arms around her waist.
"Sorry about that. I know you want time alone, but I just wanted to spend some time with my best mate, before..." Harry started.
"Before he gets mad and won't talk to you," Hermione finished.
"Yeah," Harry said, sighing. "But since we have such limited time..."
He twirled her around, and kissed her, hard. Their tongues fought hungrily against one another, and Harry backed her up against the now closed door. Her hands raked his scalp, and Harry's hands ran up and down her body, grasping at her waist. Their bodies were pressed up so close together, they could've been mistaken as one person. As Hermione's hands just began running down Harry's chest, her stomach grumbled. Harry pulled back with an amused look on his face, staring at her annoyed expression.
"Hungry, are you?" Harry joked. He pulled her over to him, and with their bodies pressed close together, Harry gave her a quick peck on the lips before whispering, "We'll continue this later."
Hermione gave a grin. She followed Harry down the stairs and into the common room. Harry was the first to realize that Ron was not there. He lifted up his wrist, checking his watch. His eyes suddenly widened.
"Mione, we've been snogging for twenty minutes," Harry told her with a slight smirk.
"Don't worry about it. I have excuses in mind," Hermione told him with a quick smile, dragging him out the portrait hole by his arm.
When they got there, they saw Ron talking to Seamus in an animated conversation. As he noticed them, he looked up expectantly.
"Sorry Ron. I remembered a book in the library that I forgot to take out, and so I dragged Harry down there with me so I could get it," Hermione said in an innocent tone.
Ron turned to Harry. "Sorry about that, mate. Must've been torture," he told him, giving Harry an apologetic look.
Harry and Hermione grasped hands underneath the table. They began eating silently, throwing a few occasional glances at each other.
"So, quidditch practice tonight, right Harry?" Ron questioned.
"Yeah," Harry replied. "Wanted to get as much practice in as I could before the game, you know?"
Ron nodded, biting into his sixth chicken wing. Harry saw Hermione roll her eyes out of the corner of his eye.
"Well, we should get going," Harry said, getting up, as well as Ron. "Coming, Hermione?"
"No, I'll catch up with you guys later," she replied, knowing all they'll talk about is quidditch. Once she finished eating, she headed back to the common room. Hermione picked up the book she had left on one of the tables, and opened up to the page she had last read. A note fluttered out onto her lap.
Hermione took a closer look at the note. She realized it was Harry's handwriting, which she had memorized by heart. It read:
- Hermione,
Sorry about leaving you back there, but I figured we better keep up the act. I'm not sure we've been doing that quite well lately. I'll be back soon; I wanted to show you something. Meet me in the common room at 9:00. Don't even bother asking; you know fully well I won't give in. I miss you already, but I'll see you soon.
Love you,
Harry
Hermione read it over twice more, and grinned. It was just like Harry to be all mysterious. It was one of the things she loved about him.
The next two hours passed slowly for Hermione. All she could think about was where Harry was planning on taking her. She jumped up as she watched her boyfriend enter the room, muddy and sweaty. Hermione quickly ran over to him.
"Hey," she said breathlessly. "You smell."Hermione scrunched up her nose.
"Thanks for that compliment," Harry told her, grinning and rolling his eyes. He suddenly made a grab for her, and caught Hermione in his arms.
"Ugh, Harry! Let...me...go!" Hermione squealed as she struggled to get out of his firm grip. "Go...take...a...shower!"
"Okay, okay," he told her. Harry quickly muttered, "at nine" in her ear, pecked her neck, and let Hermione go. He headed towards the boys' dormitories, leaving Hermione out of breath in the common room.
Hermione knew it was only about 8, so she decided to take a shower herself, to take off the stink Harry left on her. Not that she minded. She just didn't know where Harry was taking her, even if it's still at the school.
Hermione's shower was quick. She dried her hair by using an easy spell Ginny had once told her about. Hermione figured that it wouldn't be a fancy occasion, since it was so last minute. Besides, he just came back from quidditch practice. She threw on a light blue shirt, along with some sweats that were a midnight shade of blue. Hermione brushed her hair, then put it up in a messy ponytail. She slipped on a pair of black trainers. She went back downstairs to continue reading her book until Harry came back down.
She was reading her book for about five minutes when she heard footsteps.
"Sorry I'm late, I..." Harry trailed off, staring at her, transfixed.
Hermione got up and walked over to him. "Harry?" She asked, waving a hand in front of his face. "You're staring."
He snapped back to reality. "Sorry, it's just...your pretty tonight," Harry stuttered out. Hermione noticed that Harry was wearing a black shirt with jeans and trainers. With his raven black hair and matching black shirt, she found him even more irresistible than usual. She realized she'd been staring, also. Hermione blushed. Harry had an adorable lopsided smile.
"You look cute when you're embarrassed," Harry told her.
"And you always look cute," she shot back.
They were now only centimeters away. Hermione tugged down on the collar of his shirt. Their lips connected and moved in synch with one another. Both teens had been waiting anxiously to snog since dinner, but weren't able to with Ron watching.
Their snogging heated up, and Harry was the first to come to his senses. He bit lightly on her earlobe, causing her to gasp. Harry whispered huskily in Hermione's ear, "We have things to do."
Hermione shivered, gave him one last kiss, which was soft and slow, and backed away, though only a little bit.
Harry grabbed her hand, excited to watch the reaction on his girlfriend's face, and led her out of the common room. Hermione didn't even bother asking where he was taking her; she knew he would never give in.
Harry conjured a blind fold for her and quickly covered her eyes with the cloth. He led her through a bunch of corridors, sometimes bumping her into walls along the way. Soon, Hermione felt the crisp wind hit her face. She heard a door opening, Harry searching for something, then the sound of the door closing. He walked with her for a couple more yards and told her to take off the blind fold.
Hermione was staring at the quidditch pitch. At first, she was confused as to why Harry brought her here. It then hit her as she noticed Harry holding his Firebolt.
"No, no, no, no, I'm not getting on that thing," Hermione said, backing up in fear.
"C'mon Mione. I'm going with you. Its not that bad. Besides how many times have you dragged me to the library?" Harry stated, making his point.
"No, I-I don't think...scared of heights..." Hermione shivered once again.
"Hey, we'll be on there together. I promise I won't let anything happen to you, okay?" He said, grabbing both her hands.
"O-Okay," she said shakily. Harry shouldered off his jacket and wrapped it around her.
"Harry, I'll be fine, You'll freeze to death," Hermione told him, trying to return the jacket.
"Hermione, I'm fine really. You need it more," he convinced her. She nodded and slipped her arms through the sleeves.
"Let's go," Harry announced.
Hermione reluctantly got onto the broom, followed by Harry, who sat behind her.
"We'll do this slowly until you get the hang of it," Harry assured her. He wrapped his arms around Hermione and placed his hands atop hers on the broom handle.
He pushed off the ground, and slowly began flying upward. Hermione's eyes clamped shut. After a few minutes, the broom stopped in midair.
"You know," he told her, "if you open your eyes, the view's great."
Her eyes slowly opened, and she let out an audible gasp. She began breathing heavily, having a panic attack.
"I got you. You're not going anywhere," Harry whispered in her ear.
He then guided the broom as they flew around the school, taking in the scenery. Hermione became used to it as she relaxed into Harry's arms.
As they came to the Black Lake, he stopped the broom once again.
"Beautiful, isn't it? I always used to fly up here as I thought about Sirius," Harry told her. Hermione's grip tightened on his arm. "After his death, I was having a hard time, so I would fly to clear my mind. This was always my favorite place."
"Guess that makes it mine, too, doesn't it?" Hermione told him. He gave her a grin.
They continued around the school until they arrived back at the quidditch pitch.
Before she could stop herself, Hermione blurted out, "Can you do one of your dives?"
"You sure?" Harry asked her cautiously.
"Positive," she told him.
"Okay..." Harry trailed off as he flew higher into the air.
When he got to the height he preferred, Harry wrapped one arm tightly around her waist, and left the other gripping the broom handle.
"Ready, on three. One, two, three," Harry announced. He quickly pulled into a dive and they were plummeting toward the ground.
Hermione let out a squeal of delight. She had never done anything that thrilling. As they landed on the ground, Hermione jumped off, and attacked Harry into a hug.
"That was so fun!" She squealed. In an even quieter voice, Hermione whispered, "Thank you."
"Anything for my little bookworm," Harry said, giving her a warm smile.
After putting his broom away, they walked back up toward the castle.
"I can't believe I've never done that before," Hermione muttered.
"Well, everyone wants to do it after watching the Great Harry Potter do it. No one ever misses any of my games, 'cause I'm the youngest, and best seeker in a century!" Harry called out before walking through the doors into the school.
"Wow, you really are an attention seeking prat," Hermione joked.
"Oi, I'll get you for that one, Granger!" Harry yelled out. Hermione began running from him, Harry chasing after her. They both completely forgot about heading back to the common room. They turned down loads of corridors, not paying attention to where they were going. As Harry turned the corner of one last corridor, he caught Hermione, who was struggling to get out of his grip.
Unfortunately, Professor McGonagall walked out of her office just as Harry wrapped his arms around a sprinting Hermione. Just as they were about to kiss, she called out, "Mr. Potter, Miss. Granger! I would've expected more from the two of you! Especially you Miss. Granger! It is well past hours, and no student should be running through the corridors at night! Detention, both of you!"
"I'm sorry Professor," Hermione started, but was cut off by Harry.
"Professor, it's my fault, not Hermione's. I persuaded her to come out with me. I'll take both detentions if she gets off free, professor. I don't mind," Harry told her.
McGonagall bit back a grin. She figured she had just won the bet, but had to wait to make sure.
"I'll let Miss. Granger off the hook, Potter, but next time, you both get detentions and you'll lose points. And, Potter, it will only be necessary for you to serve one detention. It will be arranged for tomorrow evening. Be at my office by 7. Now I suggest you two get off to bed. Good night," their teacher told them, going in the opposite direction.
They walked back to the Gryffindor common room silently, not wanting to be overheard once again.
Once the portrait hole shut, Hermione turned to him.
"Why'd you take the detention? I deserved it just as much as you!" Hermione scolded him. She seemed to be angry with him.
Before she could say anything more, Harry shut her up with a forceful kiss.
Once he pulled away, he whispered, "You wouldn't have been out there at all if I hadn't told you to come with me. And I don't want you getting a detention because of me. I've already gotten detention loads of times, I'm used to it."
"Okay, fine. But it's not happening again, got it?" she reprimanded him.
"Got it," he agreed. Harry kissed her deeply, and muttered, "Love you. I'll see you in the morning."
"Love you," Hermione muttered back as Harry climbed up the stairs to his dormitory.
