The hills of green were bathed in an orange light as the sun set in the East. The warm glow was almost surreal, giving one the feeling they had stepped into a painting. There was a town built between the valleys of the hills, small, colourful cottages climbing up the land. Just beyond the village, laid a large, stone mansion.

The mansion had huge, glass windows, some of which had intricate stained designs on them. Outside, the stonework was starting to grow ivy, the heaviest growth being at the top, where it was harder to get rid of the invasive plant. There were two large doors at the front, painted a rich, dark, blue, with warm stained glass designs of the sun and hills added a rather welcoming touch to the rest of the house.

Surrounding the mansion was a neat garden. There was an orchard behind the building that helped hide a small garden shed. The blooming flowers that covered the estate gave a homely feel to the otherwise cold, stoney property. Many little stone paths snaked their way into the gardens, leading to small ponds and places to sit. At one end of the garden lay a path to a the stables. This was located at the edge of the garden, and behind it lay four, gated pastures and trails into the mountains.

However, as much of a welcoming feel one tried to give the mansion, it never quite built up its former glory. The estate once had so much life, carriages pulling up to the blue doors, and people strolling through the garden. There were many parties held at the mansion, and it had been a frequent sight to see high class ladies walking through the town, dressed in a more relaxed manner than usual. Their husbands would gather to discuss matters and smoke, following suit in the manner of dress.

Now the only visible, human life was the gardeners maintaining the large property, and the maids who came to the town to purchase food and other goods. The mansion's residents would also occasionally go to the town for the evening, but seemed to prefer to keep to themselves. The townspeople never questioned as to why, but preferred to talk about the days when the wealthy men and women would come from the large cities to enjoy themselves in the little town of Darvid.
