Chapter 3

Niall POV

I've always appreciated the opportunity of teaching others. I loved it more if it was music. The only thing blocking me from that was the band. Never had I been one to complain, but I do wish I could teach some guitar or singing classes alongside being on tour. Today was a good day just for that. After being told I had the day off, I received a call from Oxford University asking for my assistance on a guitar class. I don't think I had ever gotten changed and prepped so fast. The class was calm and had a great atmosphere. It was a nice feeling to be reassured that some care about the beauty of a musical instrument. Considering they only needed me for one class, I left my guitar while I got something to eat within the campus.

The deserted halls echoed with each footstep I took, keeping me company. As I near the door to the guitar room, I hear a familiar tune being played. Whoever was playing, they had to be an expert. The tune is played accurately, no perfectly. My steps have become softer but more frequent. The closer I get, I realize that the guitar is not the only instrument being played beautifully. There's a voice; singing.

I slowly open the door and sneak my way behind the grand piano. A girl with wavy, long brown hair sat with her back towards me. Her smooth way with the guitar- my guitar actually- was the first thing to catch my attention. It was her voice that caught my ear. "Fix You" by Coldplay. I finally recognized it. The way her voice held so much soul, and so much pain; it broke my heart. There was a story behind those words, but she held her own meaning.

There was a part of me aching to find out, but I knew my place in this situation. I was a stranger. She had no clue I was hiding here, watching her fingers move swiftly from each note and chord. Maybe I should reveal myself. Before I was about to stand up from this so called hiding place, the beautiful sounds had stopped. A cell phone's ringtone had replaced the calm moment before. She placed the guitar down with a little too much caution, like it could break at any moment. Blocked from my view, I heard a sigh before she finally spoke.

"Hello?" Her voice was soft, similar to what I've imagined to be of an angel's.

"Hey Riley. I woke up and saw you had left already. Did you get there okay?" Her name was Riley.

"Yeah I just used the map and got here early. I just thought I'd look around. If you don't mind, I have to get going. Class starts in roughly ten minutes. I'll see you later, Cuz."

With that being said, she ends the call and leaves. I get up from behind the piano and take in all that has happened. She used my guitar, has a killer voice, and has a story. Today, which has been a great one so far, I promise, that I will find her and make her mine.
