Chapter 4

Yuki POV

I spent the day with Akane, "You ok?" I ask her, she clutches on the sleeve of my shirt, "Mm-hm," She nods, "Hi princess!" A little boy says she jumps up, "H-hello," She sweats, "You know, you didn't have to come out today? Why did you?" I ask her, we were about to cross the road, "Well... thing is, if I want to become king someday, I need to be more comfortable with the public. That's the same with you Yuki, you and Shu are already together, if he is crowned king that will make you queen or princess," Akane looks up at me, I blush, "Akane! We're still so young! But you do have a point, being with Shu is going to make things difficult, you guys are royalty after all," I say, she nods, we walk into a cafe, "Oh hey Hana!" I wave my hand, "Hey Yuki, Akane, what are you guys doing here?" She comes up to us, "We're out for a little girls trip is all, how about you join us for a bite to eat?" I ask her, she nods and the three of us sit down, Akane picks up her plate and fork, oh no, she's glowing, she sweats and looks over to me, "It's fine, just breath Akane," I try to calm her down, her chair breaks under her, "What's happening!" Hana helps her up, must be her power, the Sakurada's must still have that weird breakout effect, Akane's just instead on making things weightless, it's doing the opposite, everyone starts looking at her, not good. She's already embarrassed, with the added edition of emotion, her power's sure to get out of hand, her shirt starts to peel off, "AHHH!" She was starting to get really scared and embarrassed, I throw my parka over her, "Don't worry, Hana and I will take people's attention off you, sneak off and go inside the cafe or home, I'll meet up with you later," I pull it tight against her, she cries, "Thank you Yuki! You're my hero!" She looks at me, "Well you'd hope so?" I rub the back of my head, "Ready?" Hana tells her, she nods, "Hey! Everyone! My name is Hana Satou and I've got an important announcement!" Akane scurries off, "You don't know me but I'm a classmate of the eldest prince! I've decided to step it up a notch! That's right! I confessed my feelings to prince Shu Sakurada!" She screams, I sweatdrop, "He's not the type to rush into things so we're going slow, well for now, but when the elections over he will be mine! And I'm going to date that prince then I'll marry him!" She strikes a pose, everyone cheers for her while I felt my soul leave my body, I can't tell her now! After that speech, she really does love Shu, maybe I'm just a barrier, would they be better together? They'd be close to each other, he wouldn't need to teleport to get to her like he does for me... Hana had to leave to go to her grandparents, I helped Akane by buying some clothes for her, "Bye Hana!" We wave, she heads off, I sigh, "I heard it, in the bathroom, she was loud," Akane chuckles, I smile as best as I could, "Do you really think that Shu and Hana would be better together? She's so in love with him, it feels bad, it's like I'm taking him away from her almost," I look at the ground, "Aw Yuki, come on, cheer up. That's what you always tell me to do, Shu loves you, he doesn't love Hana, I haven't seen him this happy since forever before you came into the nation,  I'm sure he'll find a way to tell everyone," Akane pats my back, I sigh, "Bye!" I wave, she walked through her door, I begin to walk back to my house before she comes running out, "Yuki, you have to see this!" She pulls me into the house, my jaw drops, "-but when the elections over he will be mine! And I'm going to date that prince then I'll marry him!" Hana was on TV, "And you're ok with her saying this? Jeez men, don't you care about Yuki's feelings?" Kanade hugs me and shuts my mouth for me, "Now... the... entire nation thinks they're dating..." I squeak out, Kanade sighs but nods, "You know, I'll just head home now, I need to train, after all, a hero can't just lounge around can she?" I smile sadly and walk out the door, Shu had his eyes just glued to the screen, not even turning to say bye, I shut the door and sig before walking home.

The next day during lunch, I headed up to the rooftops, it was suffocating always being in the same room every day for eight hours, I didn't even get to participate in PE. "Hey, can you come up here?" I see Shu standing on the edge of an elevated part, I sigh and climb up the ladder, "Mm-hm?" I hum, "Let's talk," I felt my heart drop, "I never thought for one second I would actually want to be king, it just didn't matter to me, probably because I've seen Kanade work so hard in campaigning for my sake. I've been thinking about it, and I've decided to follow in my father's footsteps," He balls up his fist, I look at the sky, shading my eyes with my hand, he really is going to break up with me, I don't blame him, Hana's just footsteps away, "There's something I need to tell you!" He grabs my arm, he accidentally teleports us to the alps, "What the?" He looks around, "Mount Kita, cold, strange you brought us here," I touch the snow, "You aren't cold?" He shivers, I scoff, "Are you serious? I have an ice quirk for crying out loud, in fact, when I was younger, I'd train up here with my grandparents, it's like my second home!" I lay down in the snow smiling, "Hey Yuki! Get up, you'll catch a cold!" He pulls me up, I felt a tear run down my face, "Would you please just listen to me?" He pulls to closer but I stop him, "Don't worry, I get it. Hana's so much more beautiful than me, after all, who wants to go out with a freakshow like me? Blue hair, green eyes, sparks and nitrogen? What's normal about that? If you want to end things I won't get mad, I just think Hana's speech yesterday was a little wake up call for not just you but the nation, Shu when you grow up, you're going to be a king or a prince, what nation wants a quirked person in the palace? Quirks are a new phenomenon, some people stand for what us heroes do, others dispose us, they think we're the scum of the earth, they think we should die, we're not part of the status quo. Go live a good life with Hana, she suits you much better than I'll every be," I look up at him smiling with tears running down my face, his eyes widen, "I'll do my best to forget about my feelings, us, when we were together, those were the best few days of my life, it felt carefree, it felt like I finally had something I could protect, I can't put you through all this just for someone like me, go for the crown, I believe in you Shu, go for Hana, just forget about me ok? I'm heading back to UA in less than a week now," I lay back in the snow, covering my eyes with my hand while tears just continued to roll down my cheeks, "I'm sorry, really," I sob, I hear him sigh, "Guess I was wrong, I was worried you couldn't handle the glare of the spotlight," He lays down in the snow with me, he holds one of my hands, "I've told you this before, I love you, I don't plan on leaving you for another girl. We're in this together, I'm not leaving you for Hana or anyone else, you've helped save Teru, you've helped Akane become more confident, but most importantly, you gave me a reason to fight for the crown like all my siblings, you Yuki finally gave me something to protect," He hugs me tight, he leans in for a kiss, but he sneezes, I laugh, "Come on lover boy, you'll catch a cold, you're not acclimated to this climate like yours truly," I pull him up out of the snow, "But I plan on taking that back," He cups my cheek with his hand and leans in for a kiss, I close my eyes and kiss him back, "Don't worry, I'll talk to Hana, after all, I'm taken by a princess already" He leans his forehead on mine, I blush furiously, "I don't know what you're talking about, I'm no princess," I chuckle, "But you're mine," He kisses me again.

I was at the Sakurada household, I was in Shu's room we were doing some work, while he was going his Royal Sakuraka High School homework, I flipped open my UA work, we were pretty much spending as much time together leading to my departure, his door clicks open, "Recognise her? Think," Aoi comes in with Akane in red glasses, "Oh course, it's Aka-" Shu stops mid-sentence, "Have we met before?" I peek out from Shu's bedsheets, "No way! She can't tell!" Akane was so excited, "You started to say her name," Aoi looks at Shu, "But I can tell, that you're adorable, almost as adorable as Yuki, a close second," He seemed to sparkle, "Kay see you later Shu, have fun doing your work Yuki," Aoi pushes Akane out of the room. Akane went out helping citizens all over the town, catching loose balloons, cats in trees, she even lifted two whales back to the sea, "And this is June Election Poles have been tallied!" We watched the TV, "Hey look, you're in seventh," I pat Shu's chest, he nods, "Princess Akane who was recently in fifth has moved up in the ranks! Putting some pressure on Kanade in second place!" The news reports read off the tallies, "Your scores looking good Akane," Shu puts an arm around me while we sit on the couch with Teru, Shiori and Hikari, "Yeah, since I started wearing the mask I've gone up. Scarlett Bloom is doing wonders for my campaign," Akane smiles, "Wait, how am I getting this popular when I'm hiding my identity?" She questions, "Speeches! You've done a lot of public rallies and I guess they're paying off!" I quickly turn around and say, "Oh yeah, I forgot about those," She touches her chin, I sigh in relief, "Quick thinking," Shu kisses my head, "Ew Shu! That's gross! Don't just go kissing girls! Who knows is they want to be kissed! It isn't what a prince would do!" Teru sticks his tongue out, we laugh. "You know, watching you as Scarlett Bloom reminds me of when you were younger Akane," Shu takes a bite of his cake, Aoi brought home a cake and all the siblings and I were sharing it, "I'll protect everyone in this town from evil!" Shu puts on a weird voice and perks up, "Now weren't you a feisty rascal?" I steal a bite from Shu's cake but he held it above his head, "Woah really sis! That's awesome!" Teru turns around facing Akane, "Behold! The red rose of justice! A damsel in distress! I must save her!" Shu picks me up, I was so close to getting a bite of his cake, I grumble, "Wow, such a damsel in distress," I shake my hands pretending I'm in need of saving, I shock him lightly and he drops me, "Now you're the damsel in distress," We all laugh at him who fell on the ground.

"Hello, I'm Yuki Nariko, isn't it a lovely day for an interview?" I grin at the camera, Shu was shocked. We finished his campaign, "Finally, we're finished!" I stretch my arms out, "How were you so good at that? It didn't look like your first time?" He holds my hand, "Well lets just say my dad's always bombarded by the press, I've learnt a few tricks on the way," I smile, he chuckles, "Of course, who is your dad?" We look ahead, "You'll see soon enough, in fact, in the next few days I think you'll meet him," I grip his hand tighter, "Well I look forward to meeting him," He kisses my head, "Also, why did you pick me to organise your campaign speeches? I'm only here for so long?" I look up at him, "Why wouldn't I want my own girlfriend to help me with my campaigns? After all, you're one of the only people I listen to," He chuckles, I playfully roll my eyes, "Mmm, very future king material," I giggle.
