Rafe said he would pick me up in ten minutes, so I rushed around my room in an attempt to find something to wear. I hadn't been on an actual date in years. Actually, I don't think I've ever been on a date. Most of the guys I've been with have been guys I met at parties or school. I didn't expect to want to go on another date, so I wasn't trying my hardest. I put on shorts and a cute yellow top. As I walked out of my room, Topper gave me a weird look."You look nice," he said.
"Thanks," I waved, running down the stairs.
I opened the front door. Rafe stood there with his hand up, like he was going to knock, and a rose in the other hand. "Hey. Let's go." I quickly closed the front door before Topper could run after us.
"I got you a flower," Rafe told me. We got into his truck and I smiled.
"That's actually really sweet," I beamed. He got into the driver's seat. I put my seatbelt on and crossed my leg. He played some music quietly in the background as we drove to some fancy restaurant. "Rafe, this looks expensive," I said, looking up at the big building. I climbed out of the truck and felt a hand on my back.
"It's not too much," he told me. When we got inside, he told the hostess his last name. I began to get nervous, looking at all of the expensive chandeliers around us. Rafe started walking so I followed him to a table by the window. The window looked out over the water. The waitress came over to take our drink orders. She handed us the menus and I opened mine.
"Are these the calories next to it?" I pointed to a large number. A smile came onto Rafe's face as he chuckled a little.
"That's the price, Sky," he informed me. My face immediately dropped.
"No, Rafe. This is too much. Seriously," I expressed.
"Would you stop? I'm not worried about the money. I asked you on this date, remember?" He smiled.
I put on a small smile and looked back at the menu. Living with my parents, I had a decent amount of money. We had enough to go places and live comfortably. I wouldn't dream of spending $40 for a piece of breaded chicken, though. Life was different on Figure eight. I knew Rafe had a ton of money, but I still felt awful letting him pay that much. Eventually, I found the cheapest thing on the menu.
"You look pretty," Rafe told me. I took a sip of my water and smiled.
"Thank you. You look good too," I informed him.
My gaze went to the water outside. The sun was setting and the orange colors made the view even prettier than before. After a while, Rafe and I got comfortable with each other. We were laughing and enjoying our dinner. At the end of the date, Rafe paid and we walked outside. We weren't ready to part ways yet, so we went for a walk by the water. While we walked, Rafe slipped his hand into mine. I stiffened for a second, but calmed down when he ran his thumb over my knuckles. I stopped walking, reaching down to take my shoes off.
"Come on," I pulled on Rafe's hand. I pulled him towards the water and he quickly took his shoes off as well. As we got further out, I kicked some water at him. Rafe's mouth dropped as he let go of my hand.
"You're on Thornton," he challenged, splashing water at me. We continued to splash each other until he picked me up by the waist. "I'll throw you in," he shouted, through laughs.
"No! Rafe, please don't," I begged him. He placed me down in front of him. My arms went behind his neck as his rested on my hips. He leaned down, but as we were about to kiss a huge wave came and knocked us over. The two of us ran out of the water, soaking wet. "Oh my god," I laughed, wringing my hair out.
"Come on. I have a jacket in my truck," Rafe told me.
We made it back to his truck and dried off a little before getting in. He handed me a light jacket he had in the backseat. I thanked him and wrapped myself up. As we drove back to my house, we sang along to songs that came on the radio. "You have an awful voice," Rafe laughed at me.
"What? Like yours is any better?" I gasped. We pulled up to my house and Rafe walked me to the door. "I actually had fun tonight," I admitted. Rafe raised his eyebrows and smiled at me.
"Does that mean I get a second date?" He chewed on the corner of his lip.
"I don't know if I had that much fun," I teased. He playfully rolled his eyes, leaning down to kiss me. As we kissed, the front door opened causing us to jump back. Topper stood there with a straight face.
"Really?" He sighed.
"Oh hey man," Rafe nodded. Topper looked between us and rolled his eyes.
"Bye Rafe," he waved. I pressed my lips together and hugged Rafe.
"That's a yes to the second date," I whispered to him. I turned to Topper, pushing him inside. "You're annoying, you know that," I told him. He closed the front door and nodded.
"Oh I know," he said.
"Top, I actually like Rafe. Can you just let that happen? Please," I confessed. Topper eyed the jacket I was still wearing and the rose in my hand.
"Fine. But if he hurts you, I'll kill him," he told me. A smile broke out on my face as I hugged him.
