To say being confined to the station has made everyone go crazy would be an exaggeration. We’ve all always been crazy, but some of us have just been better at hiding it than others. But there’s no point in hiding it anymore. Which is why I’m not even remotely surprised to walk in on Preetho and Riti. Still, there are some things you can’t ignore, even when you’re in an international space station.
“Look, I really don’t care what’s going on, but for legal reasons, I feel like I have to ask—“
“It’s probably best if you don’t,” Preetho warns.
“I know that, but still, what is the banging next door?”
“Banging? What banging?” Riti asks. “I don’t hear any banging.”
“I wonder if you think you’re good at lying,” I mock as I leave the room. Honestly, I just need plausibly deniability if they end up killing someone, or something like that.
I find Rayray a few rooms over, trying to clean up a mess that’s covering every wall in the room.
“What’s going on here, Ray?” I ask.
“Did you SEE Preetho’s hand???” She yells. “It was disgusting!! I couldn’t stand the sight of it. Just ask Sammy.”
“You mean to tell me that this mess is....” I didn’t want to say it.
Luckily, I didn’t have to. Rayray’s nod was enough to make me run out of that room.
It seems like there’s a disaster no matter where you turn in this building. I tried to convince myself that pretty soon, we would run out of friends to cause catastrophes.
But I’ve learned by now to never underestimate my friends. As I try to find another disaster, one comes running into me. Literally. Sammy barrels around the corner, ramming into my shoulder and knocking both of us over. She has a towel in hand and her hair is wet, and I wonder if that has anything to do with Rayray’s mess. Before I have the chance to ask, she grabs my wrist and pulls me to my feet.
“Come on, we have to go.” She starts running down the hall again.
“Go where?” I ask. “Sammy, I’m not as fast as you, this isn’t going to end well. Where are we going?”
“As far away as we can get.”
