Chapter 1- Candied apple

¨Jane, come help me tend to the house. jane come over here stop daydreaming!¨

I have never been much of a listener, just a watcher I loved watching how the grass moves with the wind and how the insects chirp with excitement but as I look down at the little town that seemed foreign to me I felt very small. 

¨Hey, mom what do you think about going into town¨my mom looked at me with a strong look

¨NO we don't need to go to town¨

My expression did not change from my nonchalant face. Since I was a little girl I have felt trapped in this farm, I have never even seen the town or castle all because of my stupid hair. We use to live in the village I also used to go to school I was plain jane, that was until my head covering came of my mom says the kids made fun of me I don't remember al that but what I did know was that the kids told their moms and started pestering my mom. Mother says there was another way and that's why we had to move to another kingdom.

¨Jane looking at the grass again¨ I did not care to look at my brother Clyde he was only going to make fun of me. 

¨ how was school Clyde¨ my words to him though had polite intention came out with a hint of spite and jealousy.

¨Fine I guess baby sister, have you been helping mom¨ Bored with the direction of the conversation I got up brushed down my dress and went inside to sweep.

It was true I was plain and quiet and envious of my brothers I have two Fin is now working in the palace as a knight and so will Clyde. It's not like I want to be a knight it's just that they get to live this wonderful life while I get to watch.

I knew what I had to do tonight I was going to run away, run away from the farm, and run away from my family. I didn't know how or what I would when I got into the town I just knew I had to today.

As the last oil candle went out I gathered my small amount of belonging and through hem out the window. I shortly following I knew how to get to town, I had watched Clyde and Fin walk it many time, just as I will today 

I knew I was doing something forbidden when I kept looking back, making sure no one followed. I felt as if I had been walking for only 15 minutes when I saw the enchanting glow of lampost standing tall next to a sign reading INN, I could not read nor write but I knew the sounds of the letters and I sounded the word out Inn.

¨Perfect!¨ I was happy for once and wasted no time stepping inside  

¨ Uhh, well hello young lady looking for a room. Wheres your husband?¨ 

¨Hello, Sorry husband¨

¨yup cant check in here yourself ¨

¨I don't uh... have a husband¨

¨ no husband no room!¨ He hissed 

I felt embarrassed and ready to go back home, but I realized that  I would never get the chance again, I stood there for a moment before a man tall and lengthy wearing a night armor wrapped his arm around me. I jumped slightly almost making my head covering fall of

¨ She's my wife Don, get us a room¨

I looked at him curios in his actions, the only thing he did was wink at me.

¨ Thanks don¨ catching the keys he pulled me up the stairs, and that's when my brain started working again  I quickly pushed him away giving him a murderous look.

¨calm down red, I'm gonna leave I just don't want you out on the street¨

¨red?¨ I followed his finger to a strand of hair that had fallen out of my cover. I quickly pushed the stray hair back inside waiting for the insults that never came.

¨Wow I have never seen hair that color it's like an apple¨ He smiled a blinding white smile and hoped out the window before could stop him.

Setting down my little belongings and locking the door and window I blew out the candle and fell asleep on the worn-down bed.
