Prior to his family's death, Dwayne's mild depression got worse. During school time before the incident, indeed he told a couple of dark jokes here and there and blurted out some very questionable hints of suicide. However, if you would ask anyone on campus what kind of person he was, depressed or wretched would be one of the last things they would say. You would never have known a person could hide such negativity with the radiant energy he brought with him. It seems the cheerful façade had finally reached its end. Zombified. That was Dwayne's Mental and metaphorical physical state from then on. Like blood thirsty maggots to a rotting corpse eating away; lifeless, void, nothing, just being with no purpose.

At home it was a similar nevertheless a different story. Except for his father, Dwayne had a near perfect relationship with everyone else in the household, especially Dustin. Dwayne's father, Dwight, would harass him constantly about the choice of study he chose at university. For a greater portion of his lifespan, Dwayne wanted to be some sort of scientist. He always excelled in science and math topics from elementary school, dedicated to be what he wanted to be. Supporting him no matter what, his mother, thus creating that unbreakable bond from an early age. Accordingly, his father wanted him to follow in his footsteps as a mechanic and take over the inherited business that ran in the family for 4 generations. From a child, Dwayne was constantly bombarded with the responsibility to learn as much as he can so his father can retire at an early age and live his life traveling the world as he dreamt of from a teenager. Or so that was his initial plan. Also working at the family business was two of his father's brothers Zion and Malik. Dwayne's uncles always tried to make his time spent at the shop as easy as possible, knowing he didn't want to be there and that his father forced too much of his life and responsibilities unto him. Time after time they attempted to persuade Dwayne's father into letting him be the child that he wanted and needed to be. A father, set on inveigling his son into taking over the business, no outside influence would persuade him from his end goal. But Dwight had his reasons. He refused to let the business rest in either of his brothers' hands because he didn't trust them. From the bottom of his heart, he believed that Zion would run the business into the ground from debt, gambling and gang issues. As for Malik, he held his past mistakes over his head; having children at the age of 16. Twins at that. Just from that one situation he thought Malik was and will be irresponsible for the rest of his life. To make personal matters worse, he had twin daughters and Dwayne would rather sell the shop to a stranger or let it become dilapidated than to let a female run it.

If it wasn't for winning the lottery, Zion would have still been a high ranking drug dealer for the "East Side 3Hunna Gang" living in the boondocks. As the saying goes, "you can take a nigga out the hood but you can't take the hood out of the nigga" and a prime example of this was Zion. Zion, the middle son, was a bachelor. A tall and muscular one at that too. Never had a wife, probably never will, and possessed an extremely flamboyant personality, always spending his money on either jewelry, clothes, drugs and or prostitutes. Five years ago he won the lottery of over twelve million dollars. For the love of family, he wanted to distribute his wealth amongst his brothers evenly. The most thrilled to receive such blessing was the youngest, Malik. On another note, Dwight didn't accept any of it. All money, no matter how much, should be earned rightfully and not rested in one's lap was his belief. With his gut feeling knowing Dwight would not accept his money, Zion set aside a combination college fund of three million dollars for Dwayne and Dustin with the only other person who could access the account being his mother, Layla. If Dwight were to ever find out something like this was done behind his back, no one would hear the end of that. For the remaining amount of money, Zion was on a mission to live lavishly as he always wanted. Two new cars and a house with a pool in a gated community were the first things he bought for a sense of comfortability. Throughout the week after work every day he would buy a pack of beer and on weekends he would treat himself to "The Lil' Fix Special". This special was comprised of a pound of marijuana, five grams of cocaine, one to three prostitutes (depending on how energetic he was feeling), and two bottles of rum or wine. Transition with this special would be a "quick" visit to the local strip club. Growing up, Dwayne was taught basic street knowledge from his uncle; how to buy and resell drugs, how to shoot and clean guns, whose territory is whose, gang signs and colours, which areas have the most frequent police, shortcuts through neighbourhoods and which beers and spirits were top tier. Out of all the activities, Dwayne's favourite was going to the gun range and in the woodlands to test guns. He would use that time to perfect his understanding of the various laws of physics and probability, along with sharpening his eyesight and precision and accuracy.
