THREE
THOUGHTS OF HIM|————|————|————|————|————|————|————|
A light chatter filled the truck.
Elijah, although focused on the slightly wet road and Bella's friendly chatter, still found his mind drifting back to the golden eyed southerner that seemed to plague his thoughts. His smell lingered with Elijah even though there was a solid few miles between the two, the rich scent of honey and vanilla not leaving his senses.
"Elijah!" Bella all but yelled into his ear.
"Yes, I'm listenin' I'm listenin'. No need to get in a fuss Darlin'" The last part of his sentence held a playful tone as Bella rolled her eyes at his comment. But after his comment the duo in the dirtied and battered truck fell into a comfortable silence.
Laboured breathing filled the southerners ears as Bella looked at the text she received from Edward. Her soft brown eyes widened dramatically as her pale hand flew to the collar of her creased shirt. Red eyes analysed every action the human made before turning back towards the slick abandoned road that seemed to stretch for miles.
Trees upon trees lined the blackened tarmac, the ever green plantation seemed to be acres deep, never ending, never changing. Chirping birds echoed through the open windows of the cab and the rustling of animals, that normally fell deaf upon human ears, pierced through the older man's senses.
Bella shifted in her seat, her fingers curled into the palms of her sweaty hands. Brown eyes darted from the window to Elijah in a repeated fashion, slowly focusing on the Texans facial expressions to her movement.
Knuckles turned white, a grimace plastered across his flawless face. The older man turned towards the doe eyed girl, piercing red saw through Bella's stoic facade clearly seeing the worry and panic that lay deep beneath the surface. Lightly sighing Elijah focused his worn eyes back onto the road ahead, turning off he finally saw the end of the forest.
Houses now lined both sides of the vehicle. Finding the Swan residence was as easy as it had been when he first arrived. The house being one of the only to be a dirtied white but also held the old, but efficient, police cruiser outside.
Bella's ever quickening breath filled the truck. Finally stopping and parking Bella flung open the door, avoiding all eye contact with the Texan, who she knew could see through her, and bolting towards the old wooden patio that lay before the house.
Releasing the leather wheel from his burning skin was a lot harder than the vampire anticipated, once his hands had been removed a very clear scorch mark imprinted against the piece of fabric that would in no doubt raise a voice of concern to whom ever were to see it.
