It was a cold night. The clouds were covering the sparkling stars. Rain was pouring, you can hear it clearly tapping on the window. Benjamin Brown was in his room waiting for his mother to finish cooking dinner. He was sitting on his bed with the lights turned off. His window curtains were open. The only thing that was lighting his room was the lighting of the thunder and his phone screen shining blue and green. Benjamin was texting his best friend, Alex Williams. They've been best friends for over a year now. They do everything together. Their friendship is very close because of the amount of secrets they share together. They think secrets is what make friends closer. They also have nicknames for each other.
Benjamin has been feeling down lately. He misses his father so much. His father, John Brown, died from a heart attack when Benjamin was only 8 years old. Benjamin wishes he could have a relationship with his dad. Every night Benjamin's mom, Jennifer Brown, tells him how great his father was and how proud he was of him. Since his father's death, Benjamin and his mother pray every night for his father before going to sleep.
Benjamin's mom called him for dinner. He comes down stairs in a hurry because he is so hungry. He sees his mother serving the food on the dining table. Benjamin thanks his mother for the food and sits on the table next to his little brother, James. James was born 2 years after Benjamin. They love each other a lot. James even sees Benjamin as his father because of how much Benjamin cares about him.
After an hour of having dinner, Mrs. Brown stands up and asks a question that made both of the boys silent for a minute.
"Benjamin, James. I think it's finally time to tell you about something. I've been so scared about this but now that I have the courage, Mrs. Brown stayed silent for a minute, took a deep breath and continued, I've been seeing someone."
The boys couldn't process what she just told them. Their eyes were wide open and they turned pale as if they just saw a ghost in front of them. James looked at Benjamin. Benjamin was shaking and his hands were grabbing tight to his jeans.
Benjamin stood up and shouted
"You can't do this to us! We never asked for another man to join this family! Dad would be so angry if he was with us right now! Dad would never do this to you or us! I wish he wasn't dead, I wish you were dead!"
Benjamin then stormed off to his room and locked his door.
James looked at his mother with tears filling his eyes and said
"Shame on you!"
As the thunder lighten, Mrs. Brown is alone in the kitchen. She sat again but this time with tears rolling down on her cheeks. She regretted every single thing she told her children. Her heart was shattered to a million pieces. She wonders when she will ever find happiness again just like the old days.
As the moon faded and the sun rose, Benjamin opens his eyes. He looks next to him and sees his little brother. He hugs him and then gets up from the bed. So early, Benjamin gets dressed and leaves the house. He puts on his earphones and listens to his favorite song while walking to Central Park.
While he was almost tearing up remembering his father, he stops walking. A mysterious girl took his attention. He walks towards her. In his mind, he was wondering why such a beautiful girl is here alone and so early. But in his heart... in his heart...
"Hey you!"
Benjamin looks at her.
"Heyy"
The blonde girl giggles and continue on talking.
"So Golden Boy, what are you doing here so early and alone?"
Benjamin opens his eyes wide open as he can't believe what he just heard.
"A-are yo- Me?"
"Yes, silly! Who else?" She giggles.
"Haha, I felt like walking. What are you doing here so early?"
She looks at him and ignores what he asked her.
"What's your name?"
"I'm Benjamin, he smiles, what's yours?"
"I'm Angel."
"Angel... what a beautiful name"
"Are you flirting with me, Mr. Benji?" she giggles.
Benjamin turns red. He wouldn't believe what she just called him. Benjamin felt a feeling at this moment he never felt. A feeling he could never describe. A feeling that took him into another world. Benjamin Brown felt Love.
"Benjamin, you still there?"
Benjamin shook his head and replied.
"Yeah, s-sorry, my mind went somewhere else." He fakes a laugh.
"Hmm somewhere? I wonder what made you so red." she softly giggles.
He laughed and they continued on talking. Time passed fast and Benjamin still didn't go home. He checked his phone and realizes how late he was coming back home.
Benjamin stands up and gives Angel his number. He waved to her as he was leaving. He arrives home and opens the door and sees his mother running downstairs crying. She hugged him tight and started sobbing.
"Mom! What happened?!" Benjamin standing still and shaking of fear.
His mother replied with her voice cracking each time she speaks.
"I thought you ran away! I am sorry for what I told you yesterday. I should've never mentioned something like that. Forgive me!" She begged.
Benjamin didn't know what to say. He hugged her and they stayed hugging each other for a long time. Then he breaks the silence.
"Mom, I am sorry too. I don't know how can I live without you. I didn't mean to wish death on you. I was angry at that time. I should be the one asking for forgiveness." Benjamin looks down.
"Benjamin, my darling. A mother's heart knows her son very well. I know you would never wish something like that" She wipes a tear from his cheek.
Benjamin hugs her one more time then goes up stairs.
In his room, while he was studying, he got a text from Angel.
"Hey Benji! It's Angel. That's my number. How are you?"
Benjamin replied.
"Hey Angel! I am so glad you texted me! I was just thinking about you. I am doing fine, what about you?"
"Hehe, I am fine. I loved talking to you in Central Park. Want to hang out more often?"
"Of course! I am free tomorrow, want to go out?"
"I am free, too! I guess I'll see you tomorrow."
Benjamin got super excited for tomorrow. He went down stairs. The dinner was ready. He sat next to his brother. Benjamin's mother made them their favorite dish, Pizza. The night went good. Benjamin was happy to see his mother's smile again. James was glad because of the pizza and Benjamin's mother was happy to see her two children happy again.
Could this mysterious girl he met in Central Park change Benjamin's life? Can Angel be the person to make Benjamin forget about his father's death for once?
