Pero Like...?

This Latina Has a Problem

Girl, lemme tell u. As a Latina, especially one who definitely does not look white, I like me some POC characters that I can relate to. BUT THERE ARE PROBLEMS!!!!! And I am going to tell u them...

1) When I add in #latina, I get some stories that make me wanna scream. We're either in some story about damn pirates like we're all Penélope Cruz in the Caribbean with Jack Sparrow, some mafia boss type shit or some hood shit with gangs and girl, trust I am not trying to get some flashbacks from the old neighborhood.

2) We're always speaking Spanish but the way it comes off is so unnatural and weird. I feel like a damn poser reading these broken sentences and this comes from a native speaker. Girl, if u don't speak Spanish, don't write it. It's okay, I won't hate on u bc it'll sound better to the ears in my head.

Now, I want y'all to understand: I am not hating on the people that wrote, are writing or plan to write stories like this. Write what u want, use whoever u want as a fc, enjoy Wattpad. But pls, pls, pls, try to make characters that are complex and not just total tropes. Also, we're Latinos, not all of us are born into gangs and shit. Some of us like our Long Island neighborhoods and shopping at King Kullen on Saturdays.

Note: I like this style of writing. I feel like it's colloquial and feels rather personal. You know, like a friend ranting to u via text. If there's any other tropes u know of, lemme know. We can talk about it. Oh and if people attack instead of respectfully disagreeing, fuck off. Idc anyway.
