What's up to you small amount of people that actually read this.
In the past, I've been working on a new story, because apparently I have problems finishing stories. (See: Hello)
This story is one I've wanted to write for a while with the main character being psychopathic. I haven't really finished the first chapter, but I'm going to start working on it more. My interest in antisocial personality disorder is making its way into my writing, finally.Honestly, what I should do is sit down on this Page thing and start writing short chapter-long stories instead of bullshitting a chapter like I did last part and right now. My original idea was to put here what I had written for the psychopathic character. It's difficult to create the character and make it obvious that he has ASPD with psychopathic traits considering most 'psychopaths' are really just like normal people. Most people when they hear 'psychopath' they think Ted Bundy or other serial killers, but really most psychopaths aren't like that. Primary psychopaths have a chemical difference in their brain when they're born that basically creates issues with empathy and remorse. Secondary psychopaths, or sociopaths, are usually purely made, I believe. They still have problems with empathy and remorse and they're usually more emotional and aggressive. Both usually have ASPD though. This is based on what information I've gotten over the time I've researched. Obviously, I'm not an expert.
Seeing as a psychopathic character would be basically just a normal character but with a different outlook on life, I'm not sure how to go about writing him. The story can't really surround the psychopathy thing, so I've gotta work on that. I'm thinking a Bret Easton Ellis sort of writing where it's just a character's life over a series of events. A lot of transgressive books from about 80s or 90s do that. (Thank you, Palahniuk and Burroughs.)
Considering I don't have enough of the story to give, I might as well tell you about the character.
-Emerson Taylor Walsh is a 17-year-old high school student, and he's a terrible person. (At least that's what I had in mind when I wrote it. I know I said most psychopaths don't physically harm, but most of them are still mainly assholes since they don't feel empathy or remorse. I'm sure they can try to be good people though.)
-He was born in Eugene, Oregon, and then his family moved to the DFW area in Texas.
-Emerson has a younger sister, and they both live with their mom after their parents got divorced.
-The father took the kids on a hunting trip and he accidentally shot Emerson in his upper arm, thus the mother didn't trust him anymore.
-He likes drawing (and he's good at it), and jogging. I'm thinking about making him a night-jogger.
-He has a girlfriend who's slightly clingy. They're off and on. She really likes him but he sees her more for the physical part of the relationship. He can't really emotionally connect with people.
-He goes to a therapist every other week (I assumed since that was my schedule for my old therapist).
-I'm thinking about him finding out about his psychopathy by getting a brain scan somehow, or finding an old report of a brain scan he did a while ago since you can see that on a scan like that. That's the stuff so far. To the few people who read these (like 2?), could you tell me how you feel about the character or the story idea? I can't wait to keep working on it. I'll be more available after I complete my summer online course (I'm taking speech online, not sure how that'll work).
Have a good night/day/evening/morning. :)
