Life can be hard

Too Late

"Sorry I'm late." Kate said as she rushed in.
The thought of the black suv outside,watching her and Casey scared her so much she hadn't been able to sleep most of the night and once she did she did she overslept.
"Everything okay?" Halstead asked as she sat down.
Kate nodded,"Yeah,fine."
Noticing the coffee on her desk she perked up,"Thought you'd need it." Ruzek smiled.
"Thanks."
Kate held the coffee between her still shaky hands.
"You sure you're okay?" Jay asked again,more concerned.
Kate looked at her shaking hands and quickly put the coffee down,"Yeah just a bit paranoid,you know with that freak out on our streets."
"Yeah,can't wait to see Voight get his hands on him." Ruzek joked.
Kate sat down and put her feet on her desk,"You guys notice anything different recently,similar cars following you,seeing the same people every day?"
"No why? Have you?"
Kate thought about it,"Just a black SVU.But I mean I could just be imagining it."
"Have you told Voight?" Ruzek asked,throwing balls of paper in the bin.
"No,but I texted Antonio the plate last night,it's just the thought of someone watching me,and Casey." Kate shuddered.
Halstead looked up,"What was the plate?"
"Um..AW09 DET." She told him,"Black SUV."
"Could have been one ours,Voight might have put eyes on us." He mentioned.
Kate checked her phone,"I hope so."
Suddenly her phone vibrated in her hand and she got up to answer it,"Hello?"
The other line crackled and she could hear somebody saying something so mouthed to the others she was going outside.
"Hello?" She said again now outside.
"You should be more careful." She heard somebody laugh before hanging up.
When she went inside she couldn't get the call out of her head she didn't notice Severide stood at the front desk.
"Hey,Kelly" She smiled walking over.
"Kate," He said awkwardly,"Can we talk somewhere else?"
"Yeah sure."Kate took him into a side room and closed the door,"What's up?"
That's when she noticed he still had his fireproof trousers and jacket on,ash on his cheeks.
"Kate,its-it's Casey..." He said.
Kate put her hands to face,"Wh-what's happened?"
"Some guy,he came over attacked him." Kelly told her,"He's in the best hands."
Kate closed her eyes,"How...what was he like,was he..."
Tears slid down her face and Kelly hugged her,"He'll be fine,I can drive you to Chicago Med now if you want."

"Platt,you seen Kate?" Halstead asked as him and Ruzek came down the stairs.
"She's with Kelly Severide,he said it was about Casey. I don't think it's anything good."
Jay looked at the closed door and closed blinds,"Hope he's okay."
