Catradora (Angst/Fluff)
•••
A fresh ray of sunlight radiated through the softly laced fabrics covering the window. It slowly crept across the floor as it touched the unkempt sheets sprawled over the two soundless figures. The light danced across the back of Catra's neck, sending a spurt of warmth into her back as she shifted, holding her partner closer.
Catra opened her eyes. Her face was merely inches away from Adora's, and with this she smiled softly. The sunlight traces the outlines of her features, her cheeks, her shoulders that curve showing her muscles, and her hair. Oh, how Catra loved the scent of Adora's golden hair. Her hair is one of the many things Catra subconsciously noted that made her swell up with affection. Soon, Catra found herself purring.
Then as soon as it began, the purring ceased into dread and remembrance.
The war, the sacrifice, the pain. It all seeps back into her mind. The waves of anxiety pool through her veins and suddenly she find herself squeezing her eyes shut, not for the tears, but for the incoming flashes of her mistakes. The war, it would forever haunt her. But she knew it was in the past, and that past is not easily driven away. It hangs into her, like a disease infecting every part of her, reminding her she was the cause of this, all of it. The scars on Adora's back are just the beginning.
Catra is interrupted as she notices Adora stretch out her arms across Catra's waist, her eyes opening tiredly. "Sorry, did I wake you?" Catra doesn't make eye contact with her.
"No, you're fine-wait, what's wrong?" Adora looks at her partner with light concern. "Catra."
"It's just-this can't be real. You...me...all of this pink magic and peace. It all seems like a dream I thought I could never have." The tears start to fall. "A-Adora, I don't belong here. I've done so much wrong, I should be outcasted, or even better, you should have dumped me on that sad old planet like you said you were. I-I-" Catra sits up, her hands covering her flushed face. Her walls were breaking down, and this time, she didn't have the strength to hold them up.
Adora sighed. "You are right, but listen to me. I didn't leave you, I didn't want to live in a world where I was serving evil, and I certainly didn't what to throw away what we had back in the Horde. What you did? That was your trauma and loss acting. That wasn't the Catra I loved. The Catra I love is alive and well today. It doesn't matter what you did because you came back. You didn't just realize you were wrong, you became new."
Catra took every word for granted. She knew she didn't want Adora as an enemy, and she didn't want Adora to choose Glimmer and Bow over her. There's so many things wrong with her, but she also knows that she is stubborn. She will resist. But now? Catra is at a loss. The war she was fighting wasn't against her partner or any of the Princesses, even Horde Prime wasn't her true enemy. It was her feelings, the ones she pushed away that turned into anger that fueled her rage and hate. The other players? They were just pieces of a game.
Her feelings became the spark that drove her to commit such acts the real Catra would have never committed.
"Okay..." Catra whispered. "But that doesn't mean I don't believe I had a small right to do what I did."
Adora quietly chuckled to herself. This was the Catra she remembers, too stubborn to admit she was wrong, at least totally.
"I just want everything to be perfect." Catra added.
Adora sat up. "You know, Entrapta told me once that imperfection is beautiful. And I believe it. I love you Catra, even for all of your gifts and flaws."
Catra just started at her. It seems everything seemed to seep away in that moment. For just a few seconds, the world revolved around them, just them.
The covers dropped from Catra's bare chest as the giggles settled in. "That's so cheesy.." Catra wiped away the last tear, but it was a tear of joy, of resolution.
Adora smiled, "Glimmer said we would all head out and have a picnic for lunch. You should tell Entrapta that yourself." She scooted off the edge of the bed still smiling.
Catra's ears perked up. For the first time in a long time, she found her sense of peace.
