Alec woke from his sleep to the sound of thumping on his window. He glanced down at his watch. The dark made it hard to determine what it said. He reached his hand out and turned the lamp on. Read his watch. It was 3am. Why? Why he asked himself. Why did the warlocks always have to attack the institute this early. He got out of bed and took off his pyjamas. He folded them up and placed them in his drawer. He looked through his wardrobe and picked out a black shirt and black pair of pants. He slipped them on, grabbed his bow and quiver and ran downstairs to see if maybe this was finally the time they were going to do something about the warlocks. Finally going to try to capture them and find out why they were doing this. He was doubtful. When he got downstairs Jace and Izzy just arguing about who should get the last bit of pizza, while everyone else wanted sleep, knowing the institute would be fine, they went back to bed. He didn't like pizza and wasn't bothered to try to stop them from arguing about such a ridiculous thing. He placed his bow and cover down resting it on the back of the couch. He walked over to the window and pulled back the curtain. When he glanced out he could see all the warlocks out there blasting the walls with their magic. Over, and over, and over they blasted the wall. They knew it would never accomplish anything yet they did it to make sure that the Shadowhunters remembered they were there. They never let them forget. The attacks started about a year ago. No one was really very sure of why the warlocks attacked the institute but they did at least once a week the warlocks would be out there, their magic blazing, throwing fireballs of magic at the walls of the institute. When the first attack happened no one knew what was happening, everyone had woken early to the sound of the fireballs hitting the wall and had stumbled out of bed to stop them from their activities. It had taken all their warriors to hold the warlocks off, some didn't survive. The next week they came back, and the next. And after the Clave realised it wasn't going to stop they got a warlock from somewhere else, who wasn't from New York, to put a protection on the New York institute. The next week when the warlocks came they couldn't destroy anything. Everyone thought that when they realised they couldn't put a dent in the place the warlocks would stop and the clave could put them in custody. But they never quit. They just kept throwing their magic. Once a week for hours on end they would visit the institute and throw their magic. Every time this happened the institute went into lockdown. Like it was right now. Alec had gotten so used to the alarm he didn't even notice it anymore, it just faded into the background. A low hum in the back of his mind. Out the window there would have been up to forty of them. Throwing their magic. Different colours flashed in their hands, nearly blinding him: there was yellow, green, red and purple, silver, pink, black and white. Alec's eyes settled on one of the warlocks: he had blue magic. Different from all the rest. He was the one at the front of them all. He was dressed in a blue, sparkling coat, he had about two rings on each finger. His nails were painted black and his hair was spiky with glitter sprinkled in it. He seemed to be a very over the top warlock. He seemed to be the one in charge. The warlock started looking around himself as if sensing someone watching him. He saw Alec looking at him, immediately Alec closed the curtain walked away from the window and sat next to the others and listened to their insane argument over the pizza.
