I wake up to the sound of birds chirping and the smell of firewood in the air. At first my vision was still blurry from just waking up. It took a moment for my eyes to adjust to my surroundings but even so I knew where I was. It was the same place I had woken up to for the past year, the same small log cabin that brought me all the warmth I could hope for. I got up from the bed I was lying on and made my way to the front door. The air smelled refreshing and was still a bit misty from the rain earlier. I walked out to the already familiar forest and went down a path not too far from the cabin. My ears twitched when the sound of water splashing at a riverbank could be heard not too far from where I was standing. As any other person would be, curiosity got the best of me. I walked on, deeper into the forest, depending on my hearing skills to get me to my destination. Soon enough the oak trees that previously surrounded me started changing into pine trees. I was now in a different part of the forest and the sound of the water splashing was definitely getting louder. I was met with a beautiful view of lake that shown like crystals under the sunlight. I was somehow so

drawn to it. I walked over and bent down to look at my reflection until I noticed the water reflecting someone else not too far beside me. It was a boy that looked around my age. He was tan and had white hair that glistened in the sun. His eyes were as crystal blue as the lake in front of us. He was skipping pebbles on the water with a small smile plastered on his face. He seemed so entrancing and mysterious to me, to the point I wanted to get a closer look at him. I slowly edged closer to him, making sure I wasn't making any noise that alerted him of my presence... That's when I heard a loud snap from under me and looked down to see a broken twig under my foot. Too late for that, I guess... I look up once more only to come face to face with the boy. He was so close that our noses almost touched. "Snooping around is never really a good thing, you know" he said as he stared me up and down. "I.. I'm...sor.. sorry" "Don't be, I'm actually glad that you're here. I've been so lonely without anyone to talk to" he said with a visible pout on his face. "Then, I'm glad to be here. My name is Rose Snow but you can call me Rose." I extend my hand out slowly as I flash him a smile. He takes my hand and gives it a gentle shake, but he doesn't let go. "Nice meeting you, Rose. My name is..."

KRINGGGGGGG!!!!!!

I groan loudly at the sound of my alarm clock ringing loudly and waking me up from that wonderful dream. "Just a few more seconds...He was about to tell me his name. Stupid alarm clock always rings a second too early." I cover myself with my comforter, trying to go back to sleep but it was no use... "I'll just get ready for school." I let out a heavy sigh as I got out of bed and headed for the toilet to take a nice warm shower.

20 minutes later...

I was brushing off my uniform and checking to make sure it looked perfect for school. I tend to be a neat freak and a perfectionist sometimes. My dad used to say that it was a wonderful trait of mine. I sat on my bed and pulled the box bellow it. Once I opened it, memories of my childhood and my father rushed through me like a giant tsunami. I picked up his badge and fawned at it for a while. My dad was a wonderful detective that did everything in his power to solve a case. He would put his all into working but he never forgot to spend time with us. Sadly, during a stakeout, he took a bullet to save his partner. When me and my mom got the news, we were devastated... It's been a year since the incident and I've learned to move on. Like he always said

'everything happens for a reason'. I have lived by that for this past year and I managed to overcome my sadness...but I can't say the same for my mother. She loved him very deeply and was on the brim of suicide when she found out he had passed. She has never been the same since...She drinks every time of the day, overworks herself, never shares her thoughts with anyone...I can't even remember the last time we ate together. I try to help her with as many house chores as I can but I don't think it's much help to her...I sigh as put the badge back into its box and slide it under my bed. I grab my backpack and walk out of my room. I go down the stairs and head for the fridge. I always start my day with a carton of strawberry milk. Not to my surprise, when I opened the fridge, all I could find was bottles and bottles of beer. Mom's habits were really getting out of control. I decide that I'll just buy some milk at the convenience store nearby school. As I was about to leave, I noticed my mom passed out on the living room floor. This is getting old... I took a pillow and blanket, slowly tucking in my mom making sure that I didn't wake her up. "Things will be better for us... You don't need to be so worried mom, I love you". I whispered to her, kissed her forehead and went on with my day.

TIME SKIP

I made it to the convenience store in no time. When I walked it, it was packed with students from my school buying things that they needed. I walked around, trying to avoid bumping into someone else. I finally ended up in the beverages isle and to my surprise it was almost completely empty. There was only one other boy in the isle, pocking his head into one of the fridges. I decided to ignore him and kept to my search for strawberry milk. I found it and was about to grab it when, a voice suddenly gave me the shock of my life. "Excuse me, do you think you could grab me a carton too" I turned around to come face to face with the boy in my dreams... His white hair, blue eyes and perfect tan skin. I can't believe this, he's standing right in front of me...but this time it isn't in a dream..., Its real life!!!
