Chapter 4

Saturday, 10:45 am

Ren wakes up, washes his face, and heads to the kitchen to prepare breakfast. He only ever ate takeaway and instant ramen because he didn't know how to cook and nobody ever really taught him, sure he could use the internet but he was always lazy to do so as he thought cooking would surely be too much trouble.

As he waited for the kettle to prepare ramen, his phone rang. He thought about picking it up but he didn't want to deal with another Akira situation or anything relating to his boss being on edge so he just left it to ring. The water had boiled and while he was pouring it into the ramen container, his phone rang again; he still didn't pick up. This went on till his phone rang for the fourth time; he then decided to answer. When he picked up the phone, it was an unknown caller ID, he answered "Hello?" but no one replied, instead, he heard breathing on the other end before the call ended.

"That was odd," he thought to himself as he went to pick up his food again and this time, the door rang. Feeling uneasy, Ren picked up a baseball bat he had lying around and carefully approached the door, he looked through the eye hole and it was Sophie. He had a sigh of relief before opening the door and letting her in.

"Hey hey, dude. Where have you been?" She asked while looking around his house if he had any sort of guests.
"Ah, so you're alone. That doesn't make sense, I thought you had someone here which would explain why you're running late."

"Running late? What do you mean today's off." He said

"Not this week, everyone at GoodTimes is being investigated with. Don't you remember?" She asked but Ren only gave her a look of confusion.

"Jesus, R. You don't?" She asked with a look of concern.

"Sorry, Sof. Maybe it just hasn't registered yet, I just woke up." He said before living in a momentary pause until Sophie broke it by saying "Mr. Yamamoto, he took his own life 2 days ago and they found the body in his apartment last night."

Ren stopped try to take in what she just said. "What? How? He fine though, he never got mad, he was always chill. Until...until that day last week" he thought out loud.

"Yes, I remember, he shouted at you last week... Look, none of this is one you or any of us at work; it's just that the police are gathering evidence and we all have to be interviewed. Just do this for him."

"...ok, let me get dressed and come with you." He said as he got up and went to his room to change.

11:15 am at GoodTimes

Police are everywhere inside of the office; each cop is interviewing an employee and other employees are waiting for their turn. Ren and Sophie sit down in the reception area and wait for their turns. They both get called by a detective sitting at one of the desks near the reception.

"Ren Nakamura and Sophie Gordon have either of you seen anything suspicious at all regarding Mr. Yamamoto in the last weeks?" the detective asked.

"Nothing" Sophie answered.
"Except last Wednesday... he was.. in a really bad mood, he shouted at me; and he never has before. He is.. was a very calm and collected person and he never shouted in the office before. At employees or even on the phone. Never." Ren added.

"I see. Thank you both for your time, you can go home now." The detective said.
Ren and Sophie both got up and headed outside the office and after they left, she asked "What the hell was that?"

"What?" He replied.
"You shouldn't have told her about last Wednesday," she said.

"Why not?" He asked.
"Because they could very possibly interview you again" she argued.

"Well, so what? Why wouldn't I wanna help them catch the killer?" he asked.
"I just don't want you to get twisted into things you can't handle. Whatever, dude" she said with frustration.

2 days later...

Ren is at home watching the news on the TV.
"The adult pleasuring company operating in Tokyo, Japan has suffered a great loss of its CEO, Mr. Jon Yamamoto. And so, all employee personnel has been given a week off until the new CEO, Mr. James Sato joins the company. He was a close friend on the late Mr. Yamamoto and he has expressed his gratitude to take the CEO position. In other news, the suspect in the John Yamamoto murder case has been captured. She is a 44-year-old woman named Akira Ito who was married to the late businessman, Gendo Ito. It is said that she will be prosecuted this Wednesday."

"What? That's insane" Ren thought.
"Why would he give me her as a client if he knew she was unhinged. Or was it some sort of sick joke that backfired at Yamamoto, I don't know what to think. Why would a person do such a thing? Did they just have a business fallout? Even if they did, rich people never get their hands dirty so what the hell. There's more to this and I have to find out what's going on."
