Chapter 3 : Surprising Discoveries

When Jiang Cheng returned to Lotus Pier, he was surprised when Jin Ling ran to him with a confused look on his face. "Uncle Cheng, I forgot to tell you that someone snuck in while I was playing with A-Yuan and A-Jingyi!"

"What?! Who was this person? What did they look like?" Jiang Cheng demanded, kneeling down to look his nephew in the eye. 'Good, a distraction. This will give me a break from thinking about...'

"It was a lady, but not a grown-up," Jin Ling said, continuing with a confused look, "Her eyes looked like olives, and she was wearing stuff that looked like what A-Yuan and A-Jingyi wore but they were black and red!"

Cheng's heart nearly stopped. It was that same teenager that he'd encountered in Henan Village, but... why was she there? "Did she say anything to you?"

"Just that she was visiting the place her Uncle grew up in, and that she's looking for someone," the little boy said, then frowned as he asked, "Uncle Cheng, who was she?"

"... I don't know," Cheng answered honestly, realizing that he'd never gotten her name. "But I do know that she's someone who apparently knows more than I do..." Looking his nephew in the eye, he said, "If you see her again, tell me as soon as you can, ok?"

"Ok, Uncle Cheng," Jin Ling agreed, nodding.

Hopefully, this situation will clear itself up soon...

After a few weeks, Cheng found himself wondering if he should track down that young Sorceress again and interro- *ahem* ask her about what she'd told him. The question of what she'd been referring to when he'd first encountered her had not left his mind the entire time, and it was slowly and surely driving him insane. So, he decided that he would be going Night-Hunting in the forest surrounding the small village, bringing along a few guests from other Clans as well, but they were... a bit curious as to why he had set up the Night-Hunt in a neighboring Sect that didn't contain a Cultivation center.

"So... why the sudden interest, Clan Leader Jiang?" Xichen asked, standing with his brother as the group got ready to go. "I thought you were content to leave that sect alone unless specifically asked to go."

"... I just noticed that there is extra prey around that area, and thought it best if we cleaned it up a bit," Cheng said, knowing it to be true... although he wasn't sure what the young sorceress would think of them hunting the corpses she apparently monitored in the area. Hopefully, she wouldn't be too angry with them.

When they all arrived at Henan Village, they immediately alerted the villagers with their activities, and then spread out to make sure that they didn't focus on just one area. Cheng, however, was sharp on the lookout for a different target... one whom he didn't even know if he would be able to spot. She'd already shown that she could pass within inches of someone without them noticing she was there, so he knew that his chances of actually finding her weren't all that good.

'Come on... there's a bunch of Cultivators on your turf, so aren't you keen on keeping us out?' Jiang Cheng baited in his head, wanting the girl to appear before him so he could ask her how she had come by knowledge only that person had had... and luckily, it seemed that the Gods were smiling on him as she seemed equally curious.

"Clan Leader," a soft voice said behind him, "It would seem you've brought some friends with you... mind to tell me why they are destroying the corpses? It's not like they'll come back as vicious corpses; I made sure they wouldn't since this town has enough troubles as it is."
