Longing

Remember that time
Long ago
When we would take
These broken wings
And soar?

Remember when
We were still young?
When the world was still golden
And those grass filled hills
Still sung?

Remember once
A million years behind
When we would chase a rainbow?
All those adventures we would find?

You've forgotten
But I watch and I remember
The childhood we left for dead
The vow we made
When we once said
We'd always be there to aid

I remember
I remember every day
That bond we once shared
When we weren't drowning in the gray
Those days long past
When you still cared
And I still played

Now I sit
Alone
Among these grass filled hills
That have long forgotten
How to sing

I stand
And watch
The rainbow pass
For I have long since learned
Those dreams are nothing more than air

Each day pass
I sit upon
These waning skies
Awaiting your return
When we'd mend these broken feathers
And I'd be free to soar

I wait
And I wait
For that day that will never come
That day when you remember
This broken spirit you left behind

I wait
And I wait
Even though I know
You'll never come
