I had just got done with my outfit and hair, along with my nails. I sat down on my bed, going on my phone. A knock on the door interrupted my thoughts though.

"Hey Zoe, can I come in?" Connor asked.

"Yeah." I replied. Connor opened the door and came in.

"Someone is at the door for you." He told me.

"Okay." I replied, getting up and going downstairs with him. I got to the door and saw a couple. They seemed oddly familiar.

"Oh my, Zoe!" The lady said, coming up to me and hugging me.

"Who are you?" I asked, confused.

"We are your real mom and dad." They said together. How? What? I'm so confused.

"What? They died in a car accident." I said disbelievingly. Connor's mouth hung open from shock.

"I guess we have some explaining to do." Apparently my mom said.

"Uh, yeah, you kind of do." I said, still in disbelief.

"May we come in?" My 'dad' said.

"Um yeah sure." Connor replied, opening the door wider so they could come in. I looked down as they came in, not wanting to look at my supposedly parents.

"The living room is right here." Connor said, leading them into the room. They sat on one couch so I sat with Connor on the other one, moving close to him.

"Okay, so it's a long story actually." 'Dad' said.

"We have time." I said sarcastically.

"Zoe." Connor warned. "Just listen."

"So it started off about a month before what happened with us supposedly dying." 'Mom' started. "Your father just got fired from his well paying job and I was unemployed at the time, waiting for a job opportunity. We thought we would be fine, we honestly did, but a month later we realized that our money was dropping drastically, and we wanted you to go to a home that could provide the best for you, better then we could. We just wanted what was best for you."

"Then why did the hospital call and say that you were in a car accident? I went there with Brittney and then they told me you died!" I exclaimed.

"The lady was an old friend and I explained the situation. I also gave her 100 dollars if she would go along with it." 'Mom' said.

"Do you not get how wrong that is?" I asked.

"Look, we only wanted the best for you! We decided to fake the accident so you wouldn't know that we had to give you up! We honestly thought we would never gain the amount of money back, but your father and I got a job and now we almost have it back after nine years. We have enough money for you to come back and live with us, Zoe." My 'mom' replied, looking at me. "We want our daughter back."

"I-I just don't know! What about Connor? He's my dad now! He's cared for me the past few months and has done a pretty damn good job at it if you ask me." I shot back. "Plus how can I believe you? Anyone could make up a story. You could be out to hurt me for all I know."

"Well how can we prove it to you?" 'Dad' asked.

"I want to go out and get a DNA test." I said, looking them both in the eyes to get the reactions.

"Okay." 'Mom' said without hesitation. "We'll get the DNA test if it makes you feel better."

"Now honey wait a second now-" 'Dad' started, but I cut him off.

"If you really are my parents then you would have no problem getting the DNA test." I claimed.

"Let's go now then. Better now then never." Connor replied, grabbing his car keys.

"We can take her down to do it." 'Mom' countered.

"I'm sorry but if you think I'm letting a total stranger take my daughter alone with them then you're wrong." Connor said, grabbing my hand and pulling me past them. "Let's go." 'Mom' and 'Dad' followed after him, and he locked the door before unlocking his car and letting me in. I sat up in the front with him, and my 'parents' took the car they came in.

"So how are you feeling?" Connor asked.

"There's no way they are my parents." I said right away. "I don't get why they agreed to this or how they find me. They probably just want to waste my time."

"Yeah." Connor agreed. "I wanted to laugh when they said I didn't have to go and they were gonna take you."

''I wouldn't have gone anyways." I said. Connor nodded. Something seemed a little bit off with Connor though, he had a frown on his face and constantly had a worried face.

"Okay what's wrong?" I asked him.

"Nothing." He replied quickly.

"That's not true. You have a worried look on your face and you are constantly frowning." I retorted.

"Well, I don't like 'what ifs' but it can't seem to slip my mind. What if they actually are your parents. What if they want you to go back with them? What if the one person who can truly make me happy even when they do the worst thing possible or sillystring me or scare the shit out of me leaves me? I just feel so bad because if you want to go live with them, I'm afraid you're gonna want to stay with me so you won't feel bad, and I would feel guilty because I kept you from doing what you truly wanted. You know that if for some miraculous reason they actually are your parents, you are gonna have to choose between me or them. You know that they wouldn't have gone out of their way to find you and see if you would want to go back. They wouldn't just come back into your life to leave you again, and if all of this is real, you are going to have to choose, and this choice is going to affect the rest of your life." Connor gave in, telling me what was on his mind.

I couldn't say anything. What he said was 100% true, if somehow this is real, I will have to choose, and if I choose wrong, my whole life could change drastically and it wouldn't be pretty. I have to pick what my heart really wants, what I wouldn't regret later on. I would have to not let guilt take over me for picking the one I really want, I would have to choose carefully, choose wisely, because one wrong choice could absolutely ruin me. I have to pick what I feel is right, not based on what anyone else thinks or says. Wait, why am I even worrying about this? I doubt they're even my parents.

"I don't think they're my parents, and I'm not gonna live with the 'what ifs' right now, you could be getting worried over nothing, which is never good. If I start worrying, my anxiety will shine and I don't want that to happen, but in all honesty Connor, I don't think you have anything to worry about." I spoke firmly as we pulled into the hospital parking lot for the second time in two days.

"I hope you're right." Connor whispered as he found a parking spot and stopped the car.
