First Chapter Hook Review

What is it?

It's a common mistake to start the story too early, before anything is happening, which will bog down the narrative and bore the readers. If nothing happens in your first chapter, odds are the readers won't come back to check out the next one.

One of our reviewers will read your first chapter and look for that essential first chapter hook that keeps the reader... well, hooked!

While the review is focused on the hook, you will receive general feedback on the chapter overall, discussing anything we feel worth mentioning. (Ex. grammar/plot/characters/show vs tell/narrative etc.)

It is in your best interest to polish the work as much as you can before submitting, especially where grammar is concerned.

How it works

This service is done anonymously by our FW30s members. Any correspondence will be done through this account (Flirtingwith30s).

If you are interested in this service, please use the form below and comment on this chapter. When your submission is accepted, you will be added to a list of current submissions - and that is when it is time for you to make your payment. (Details below!)

Once payment has been done, your story will be sent to our anonymous reviewer and they will complete the service. Once it's been done, the feedback will be sent to you via PM.

Payment

To have one of our reviewers complete this service, you will be requested to read a chapter or two (depending on length) of a story from one of the FW30 members. The story will be assigned to you when your application is accepted.

Because the service is anonymous, you will (most likely) not be reading the story of the person reviewing you.

Payment is required before the service will be completed. Please comment at the end of the first chapter mentioning at least three things you liked or didn't like, and tag it with #FW30Feedback.  (Alternatively, if you prefer leaving in-line comments with three things you liked or didn't like, that's fine too. Just please remember to tag them.)

Once payment is complete, please return to the chapter of accepted entries and comment by your name to let us know.

Extra

Because reading is such a subjective thing, we are offering the option of having more than one reviewer look at your story.

You may request up to 3 reviewers. However, your payment will increase equally. So if you want 3 reviewers, for example, you will be asked to read 3 chapters of a story (the same story, not three different ones).

1 reviewer = read 1 chapter
2 reviewers = read 2 chapters
3 reviewers = read 3 chapters

Turnaround

We do a set amount of reviews every month. Once we're full we will close to catch up and open up again the next month. You can still apply if we're closed, but you should be aware that your review won't happen until the following month.

Time-wise, we are all adults with busy lives, so we do have to spread the reviews throughout the month. We do our best to do them in a timely manner, but with sometimes up to three different reviewers with three different schedules, it can take some time.
