A/N. I hope you guys enjoy this chapter. I'm doing my best to make this story my own adventure without disregarding canon. I hope it's enjoyable and I'll keep doing my best to produce chapters. If you were wondering where Lyu was it'll be answered shortly haha.

"Heading out again?"

"Yeah..."

Alone at the Loki Familia entrance stood Riveria and Ais. The elf had worry etched on her face while Ais wobbly held herself up in fatigue.

"Ais. Put the sword down." She demanded. It was midnight and the adventurer had tried to head out for late-night training, only to be stopped the high elf.

Her eyes widened in surprise. "But I-"

Riveria walked up and embraced the young girl mid-sentence. Ais stood with her arms falling limply to her sides, and the sword fell out of her hands bouncing to the floor.

"Ais, you haven't eaten and you've been holed up in the dungeon. I don't know what has happened, but what I do know is I won't let you stop taking care of yourself." She put her arm around the back of the blonde's head pulling Ais gently to her chest.

The sword princess' eyes watered and she brought up her arms hugging her mother figure in return. "I'm sorry." She spoke like a whisper.

"We can talk if you'd like, but beforehand you need to eat. I prepped you a meal in the dining hall."

Ais backed away from the embrace and bowed. Intent on hiding her tears she quickly turned to the dining hall.

"Thank you."

It wasn't the same.

No.

Not at all.

...

These monsters weren't full of life. That girl was different. These monsters had no intellect other than to kill. I thought long and hard and the more I searched my mind, the more I realized I had never come across that type of creature.

I felt relieved, if only slightly, that I had not killed any of these sentient creatures because I would have known.

These thoughts rushed through my head as I stabbed the last of the merman in its chest shattering the magic stone.

Monster's blood mixed with my own soaked the floor, staining the wet rock a grotesque shade of red. I was surrounded by piles of ash and despite the yelling of my friends, I couldn't bring myself to reply. I was teetering from exhaustion. My vision began to fade and darkness took over.

"Mr. Crannell!" Who is...

Forcefully a pair of strong hands grabbed me.

"Wake up!"

Ryu?

My eyes opened wide as if waking from a dream. I was still standing.

"I'm sorry." I barely mutter.

"Save your apologies. You've lost a lot of blood. We need to go to the eighteenth floor and get you treated."

Lyu had gone ahead to floor thirty to ensure there were no irregulars ahead, considering this was our first expedition. She had managed to return as I finished off the Merman.

My other Familia members caught up, and their faces went from pissed. to frightened. Welf seemed like he was about to tell me off but quickly changed his mind after seeing my pitiful state.
