A Second Chance

Maddi lays on her bed making shapes in the ceiling. She let out a low hum knowing she had school in half an hour. She sits up and looks down at her clothes. Overalls, over a pastel blue short sleeves tee and white Converse. She sighs and stands walking to the full-length mirror on my closet door. She looked at her reflection, putting her hands in the overalls pockets. She pulls my hands out of their little cocoons and reaches up and tugs on my wavy ginger hair. She blows a piece out of her face and pulls it up into a messy bun.

She turns on her heel and grabs her bag from beside the desk and swings it over her shoulder. She passes her brother Andrew's room right as he exits from his room, and he crashes into her. "Ouch," She mumbles. My brother Andrew mumbles a Sorry and keeps walking. She scowls slightly and keeps walking. Her dad greets her at the bottom of the stairs with a kiss on the forehead. "Good Morning Pumpkin." He says smiling. She smiles and gives him a hug. "Morning Dad." She walks into the kitchen and notices my twin. Seth. Her smile brightens and She rushes over slamming Seth into a hug. "When did you get home?!" She asks giddily.

Seth laughs and hugs back "I got home late last night." He says between laughs. She pulls him back and kisses his cheek "I missed you so much!". She really did. Seth had been in California with his buddies for the past week and a half. She had always hated it when my brother would leave. She looked over at the time and realized 15 minutes had already passed. "Dang, time passes so fast." She let go of my twin and walked to the cabinet. She grabs a bowl and gets some cereal that has been set out on the counter. She pours milk on the cereal and quickly eats. After putting my bowl in the sink and turning to my brothers. "Time to go." She says giddily because she finally got to drive.

"You sure you don't want me to drive?" Seth asks as they walk out the door. She shakes her head and smiles. Getting into the car she puts her backpack in the passenger seat on Seth's lap. As Andrew got in the car and closed the door she put the car in reverse. She pulls out of the driveway and drives down the road. A few minutes later they are parked in the school parking lot. She says goodbye to Seth and Andrew gets out of the car. She spots Opal by her car a few lots away and walks over. "Hey, Opal." She says as she runs over to Opal. Opal gives her a side hug. "Hey, Maddi.".

"Seth came home last night" She blurts. Opal blushes as Maddi blurts it out "H-he did?" Opal stammers. Maddison always knew that Opal had liked Seth but didn't pay much attention to it.

They got to class 2 minutes before it started so she could continue to talk to Opal. As Opal and Maddison sit down. She looks over and sees Sabrina the popular girl that everybody wanted to be like but Maddi didn't. She knew Sabrina was popular and everyone's favorite not to mention...She was very pretty. Maddi shakes her head and looks away. She continues to talk to Opal as if she didn't notice Sabrina staring at her. She could feel Sabrina's gaze on her but she tried her hardest to ignore it. That's when she noticed that she started talking and laughing behind her. She didn't think that it was at her so she played it off as if nothing was happening. Then she realized everyone's eyes on her and they were laughing. She looked at an Opal with wide eyes.

Maddi just puts her head down on her desk and tries to block out the world. Oh, how she wished Seth was in her class. For the rest of the class, she kept to herself and said nothing. Opal knew what was wrong so she decided to try and make Maddi feel better after class. Maddi kept her head down listening but hardly paying attention. After class had ended it was time for lunch. Maddi got out of class as quickly as possible as soon as she was in the hall someone grabs her arm and pulls her back. She's pulled back and her head slams slightly into a hard chest. She looks up to see the calm face of Zane. She sighs knowing he was Sabrina's boyfriend. "Ugh. What do you want?" She spat.
