wanda nodded a little, with her brows furrowed.
"yeah, i had icecream before.
Rocket? alright, got it." she spoke.
maybe talking to a raccoon was a bit weird, but, she talks to a robot on a daily basis. this was nothing.
"hi, pete. what's this all about?" she asked the kid upfront.
Pete: "oh, we're just going to get ice cream, I have more free time now, and I think everything is gonna be okay! Just happy to finally get to relax with my friends!
[I]'Bingo.'
Beck had been following Aurora's move for the better part of two hours, waiting for her to be either totally alone or surrounded by strangers in a crowd; on the streets, in her room, somewhere she would be particularly vulnerable. A small group was too intimate for proper distraction. No, Quentin needed other civilians to be nothing more than disinterested in the girl. As they started outside, Quentin couldn't help the grin that spread over his face.
Hiding in plain sight was a risk, given that Aurora had seen his face before, but Beck was nothing if not cocky. Dressed in civilian clothes he could hide the control panel on his forearm while still operating the many drones around the city. He tapped a few commands onto the screen.
"Aurora!"
Disguised drones echoed the name around the young Stark heir, whispering, making it sound like the voice was far away while the drones were practically in her ears. Everywhere and nowhere all at once, it repeated, desperate, familiar.
[I]"Where are you?! Aurora!"
Her mother's voice. Audio clips taken from news and interviews with Aurora's parents, stitched together and smoothed to sound authentic. The drones silently maneuvered down an alley branching off from the main streets, still calling her name.
Peter was eating his ice cream , his wolf ears perked up at the sound of voices calling for Aurora.
"M-mom-!??" Aurora looked around frantically, shaking like a dog out off a bath.
Aurora followed the voice, was her mother alive??? They never did find her body.
Thoughts raced threw her mind,
[ic]MOm, I-I didn't kill her... I can go live with her. Away from dad! Away from hell.
Peter smiled, about to respond , but noticed Aurora's sudden disappearance, so he called out gently,"Aurora? Hello? Where'd you go?
[I]"Aurora!"
Watching through the drone cameras, Quentin grinned, malice shining in his blue, blue eyes. Like a moth to a flame, the kid was. He almost felt bad for how easily she was tricked. For how horrible this was going to be.
Almost.
When she rounded the corner of the alley, where there had been a dead end was suddenly a projection of her old school building. Just one wall, but enough to look familiar. Through a slightly blurred window a figure could be seen rushing back and forth, frantically upturning desks and shelves of little textbooks.
