This is divination using one or more birds. The best birds to use are white roosters and cockerels. You'll also need to have grain (such as wheat) for the birds to peck at. 

The diviner will scatter the grain on the ground. After allowing the birds to peck at the grain, the diviner can interpret the patterns left on the ground. 

Another version:

There is another way to do alectryomancy, that is similar to an Ouija board. Please if you do this, don't hurt your birds. The diviner tethers the birds in the middle of a circle. The perimeter of the circle will be marked with letters (put the whole alphabet). For each grain pecked, write down the letter the grain represents. You'll need to replace each grain after the bird eats it. The sequence of the letters will reveal a message. This is related to gyromancy (random slection of letters from a circle).
