After a long week of not really going to school,
it was finally Saturday!
Shut up.
Anyways, me and Benn sat in his garage with the door open. He had his electric guitar out and was absent-mindedly plucking at the strings. Tuning it maybe? I didn't fucking know. :| I don't know shit about guitars.
Yeah. So we sat there waiting for about a half an hour. It was 11:35 when somebody decided to actually show up.
"Hey man." I greeted. "What's your name?"
"Hayden." He replied, smiling slightly. Well, hi Hayden, I thought. He had short blonde hair and was carrying a bass around his neck.
I ended up examining his instrument more than looking at him. Oops. It was nice though- all polished and shit-
Why am I saying this? I don't know. Anyways, he had black sunglasses on. I couldn't see his eyes and it was bothering me. >.> So,
"Can you take off your sunglasses?" I blurted suddenly. No regrets. Benn looked at me weird and I saw that Hayden had raised an eyebrow as he rested the glasses on top of his head.
"Better?" He offered. I shot him a sarcastically dazzling smile.
"Sure. Yeah-" Benn looked at Hayden and sighed in exasperation.
"Andy's retarded." He explained. I glared at him.
"Oh shut up. At least I'm not Princess Baby Benn." Benn glared back at me, and blushed in embarrassment when Hayden burst out laughing unexpectedly. He had to leave for a few minutes to stop laughing- Okay then-
I like him.
While Hayden was busy laughing- another guy came in. What the fuck is he holding- is that a violin?! Oh my fucking god-
I face-palmed and Benn opened and closed his mouth with a frown.
"Um-"
"Hi!" The guy interrupted us too-brightly. Woah. He's shorter than me-
"Um. Is that a violin-?" Benn asked, staring blankly at the kid. Well. He looked like a kid. Like a ten year old. Sorry dude- but it's the truth.
"Yeah!" He replied brightly again, nodding. "I came to try for the-"
"You know this is a rock band right-?" I interrupted, leaning sideways in my chair. The guy blinked.
"Oh." He replied awkwardly. He stood there for a minute before shuffling out the door. I looked at Benn and snorted.
"Well then." He said in response. I shrugged, chuckling softly. Thankfully, Hayden had come back in by now- and had stopped laughing.
"Okay." Benn chuckled while Hayden grinned, ((No doubt he'd seen what happened before him.)) "So you play bass?"
"Yeah." Hayden replied.
"Right, kay. Want to play something for us?" Benn suggested.
"Sure," Hayden replied again, positioning his bass and then starting to play.
Woah. I flung my legs over the side of the chair, sitting sideways in it. ((Stop it. I can feel your judgement. -_-)) Hayden's really good, I thought, grinning at Benn. Benn made a hand gesture and an impressed face as Hayden kept strumming at the bass quickly.
Woot woot.
Hayden gave us his phone number, waving before leaving. We promised to call if he got the position.
Yeah, we were probably going to call him.
We waited a while, talking about Hayden and that weird violin kid.
"Hayden's pretty good." I offered. Benn grinned and nodded.
"Yeah, he'd be good for our band." He replied. I chuckled.
"Awh. Does Princess Baby Benn have a crush?" I teased.
"NO." He replied. I just grinned and looked up as another person stepped hesitantly into our garage-band studio. (( Get it? Garage-Band? -_- Nevermind-))
I looked at this person. Long, uneven black hair swooped over to one side, brown eyes. He just kind of stood there, shouldering his guitar case awkwardly. Damn it. I know this guy from somewhere. Where?!-
"Oh! Hi! You're that guy who Andy hit in the face with a pencil!" Benn remembered for me. I face-palmed again. This was going to be a long day. "What's your name?" Benn asked this mystery pencil-target guy.
He seemed to hesitate, before closing his mouth and then shaking his head. I frowned.
"Um.. Okay then. No Name. Want to play some guitar for us?" He nodded silently and quickly got his guitar out. Benn, seeing that it was electric like his own, grinned.
"Want to plug it in?" He offered. No Name shrugged and then shook his head. Benn shrugged back at him.
"Okay, suit yourself."
So then Mr. No Name started cranking out fucking crazy riffs on his guitar. WTF. Can people actually move their fingers that fast?! I just sort of stared at him, then, glancing over at Benn, I noticed he was doing the same.
When No Name dude finished, we both clapped for a minute and grinned.
"Awesome dude." I offered.
"Yeah, great stuff." Benn said.
Awkward silence.
We both felt stupid interviewing people, that's for sure.
Well, that guy wrote down his phone number, and eventually his name- Brandon. Okay, cool. Why the fuck won't he talk to us. I shrugged as he left and put a star beside his name because. You know. Fucking epic.
So yeah. We had quite a few more people come to show us what they had, girls and guys both, ((to be honest, the girls scared me.)) but Hayden and Brandon still stood out. Although, we still needed a drummer. We had two guys came to try. But me and Benn agreed that the second, Brent. Plus he looked cool. ^-^
At 6:20 we started packing up. Almost done, we were interrupted by a soft knock at the garage frame. I looked up and smiled at a guy.
"Hi." I greeted.
Woah-
HE'S SO SHORT!
;DD
"HAHA I'M TALLER THAN Y-" I cut myself off and dove in the back to hide behind shit, the guy and Benn staring at me.
I didn't come out.
Idiot.
Benn cleared his throat.
"Andy's retarded." He explained again. I face-planted into the wall. I could hear the guy shuffling his feet.
"Um.. Okay. I came for the band...? Am I too late..?" I imagined Benn shaking his head.
"Nope. We were just starting to pack up. Um... so what's your name, and what do you play..?"
"I'm David, call me Dave, and I don't really play anything... I came cause I can scream. And sing.. I just thought I'd show up in case you needed someone.."
Benn started to talk, but I quickly interrupted him.
"Well, Andy can scream and sing-"
"NO-" I popped up and awkwardly cleared my throat, trying to cover up my outburst and be casual.
"Well. I mean. I do. But um. Why don't you show us some." I stated, mentally slamming my face into a fridge.
Benn stared at me and David shuffled his feet awkwardly again.
"Um. Okay."
He cleared his throat and closed his eyes a second before starting to scream and sing the track to Knives and Pens by Black Veil Brides.
Keh, this guy had awesome music taste.
Plus. C'mon. Even Benn had to admit-
a) Dave could scream better than me,
b) When he sang he had this awesome scratchy, dark voice that was like, perfect and-
...
No further comment.
I--
...
.
Um,
So he finished singing and I grinned and looked at Benn, who was smiling. He shrugged at me. I looked at Dave.
"Write your phone number down for us- won't you?" I suggested.
Benn handed a grinning David our pen and I watched as he scribbled his name on a sticky note.
