It's another day of the week, I don't care to know which, it was a Friday, the day I was born. Waking up every morning has a burden, I never really understood why people who had nothing to live for were alive, it was a cruel fate. Those who begged to live died anyway and some of us, well never seemed to expire.

I stood slowly from my dirty mattress , stretching trying to avoid hitting my arms on the sharp
Rough edges of the door, the bed was small, but the room if possible was smaller. I took my bath, by rubbing soap and a sachet of water to rinse. All of this swiftly of course to avoid getting caught by Captain. Dressed up in my best piece, the same on i had been repeating for the last Three job searches, a shirt that had seen better days and a pair of jeans that were faded beyond their original color due to excessive wash and exposure to harsh weather. I couldn't care less as it still looked like I could be hired somewhere, at least a two star hotel.

As I walked out of the one bedroom or should I say closet sized room, I managed to acquire
for 300 naira per night, it might look cheap to some of you but it's all I could afford, I still couldn't fathom how I hit rock bottom in a matter of days. It was distressing, seeing the only qualification I have is my SSCE/ WAEC results.

Tiptoeing out towards the gate, to avoid waking the compound up, after all it was only 5;30. Thankfully, I managed to navigate to the gate without making noises and waking any unpleasant neighbor or Captain up.

As soon as I reached the gate, I felt a arm grab me looking behind I saw it was Iya Tito
as she was fondly called, she began speaking regardless of the pako in her mouth making
It difficult for her to speak without spitting some tiny particles out.

" Sewa, where you dey go early this morning" she asked unaware of the spit she sent flying my way.

"Iya Tito, you know I have to go out early, so as to get more money" a little irritated i responded, from both lack of sleep and the disgusting spit mixed with pako flying at me early this morning.

Nonchalantly, she nodded her head, she was exactly the type of mother I detested, careless and selfish, smiling softly to show "respect", I bid her farewell as at her I began to walk away after .

The sun was rising fast, in a matter of time the road was buzzing with people coming
from different parts of Ibadan, looking behind me I could see an ebo placed at the orita
of the road, scoffing at  the mixture placed in the calabash, I walked away humming The Beatles here comes the sun.

I finally got to the Supermarket I worked, I got down to business, and began to clean the
dirty aisle, when I noticed a shadow behind me, I tried to see the person whose shadow
I was in front of. Turning, I didn't see either the shadow or the person. Shrugging, I
walked away to clean up the next aisle.

I successfully cleaned out the dirt from all aisles and even managed to arrange a few products on the shelf, before officially opening the place up. Two hours after, around 7 am, there was still no sign of customers. Sometime around 9, they rushed in like a swarm of bees, some still with the smell of beer or paraga in their mouths, letting us know how wild their nights were.

The day flew by very fast and a lot was done, and I had only one encounter with a nasty customer but I didn't let the pervert have the last word in our exchange. But, I just couldn't forget my earlier experience today, the shadow seemed so real, I hope it wasn't a thief, I concluded before putting aside the thought of it, I happily collected the day's pay from the manager who usually left it after collecting the money made from the day and strolled home mildly contented .
