jeongin sighed as he tiredly poured coffee into a paper cup. it was his fifth day of working at white wind café, and although he enjoyed the quiet music and the warm feeling of the small café, he had never realized how popular it really was. the only break he was able to take was during lunch breaks, where he stepped into the back room for half an hour. the only thing that kept him from collapsing was the other barista, soyeon. the two had quickly became friends after the third day of working together.
"here, i'll take that for you," soyeon said, grabbing the cup of coffee and giving it to the customer. jeongin sighed gratefully and watched as soyeon smiled at the customer and put the money into the cash register. he groaned as he heard the sound of the door opening and another customer stepping into the café.
"hi, welcome to white wind café! what can i get y-" jeongin stopped as he realized who was standing in front of him. "felix!" his fake, practiced smile used for customers was replaced with a genuine one.
"hey jeongin," felix said, tilting his head. "i didn't know you worked here."
"jisung helped me find a job so that i could actually earn something without my parents' help," jeongin said, his smile slightly fading as he realized felix looked slightly annoyed. "sorry if i took too much of your time, what can i get for you?"
he noticed felix force himself to smile at him again.
"i'll have two iced americanos," felix said, handing jeongin 20000 won.
"two?"
"one's for jisung."
as if cued by what felix said, jeongin heard the sound of the door opening again and saw jisung walk into the café.
"hi baby," jisung smiled as he wrapped his arms around felix's waist. an emotion he had never felt seemed to push away any other feelings in his chest, and he found that he had to force his mouth to stay smiling and he unconsciously clenched his fists. what the fuck?
"you got the job?" jisung asked, still hanging onto felix like a fucking koala.
"yeah," jeongin replied, starting to make the drinks. "thanks for telling me about it."
"no problem," jisung said as jeongin turned to grab the cups from the counter. "it's what friends do."
jeongin felt that same emotion squeeze his chest again, but he brushed it off and placed the two drinks on the counter. felix gave jeongin another forced smile as he took the cups and brought them to a table. jeongin sighed and turned around to soyeon who was standing right behind him.
"holy shit soyeon, you scared me," jeongin flinched as he tried to keep his voice down. "don't do that again or i might mess something up." soyeon rolled her eyes.
"whatever," soyeon said, leaning on the counter. "they're a cute couple, aren't they? i wish i could be in a relationship like that."
jeongin wasn't aware of the fact that he had nodded until he saw soyeon's smirk.
"so our little baby jeongin was lying when he said he didn't want to be in a relationship, hmm?" soyeon smiled and pinched jeongin's cheek. "you're so cute." jeongin scrunched his nose and flicked the other barista as she laughed.
"hey jeongin, want to come sit with us?" jeongin turned around at the sound of jisung's voice. "you could take a short break with us."
"won't i be disrupting your jilix moment?" jeongin called back.
"it's fine." came jisung's response. jeongin turned to soyeon.
"would you be okay with that?" jeongin asked, and soyeon nodded. he took a seat across from the couple, slightly uneasy because of felix's gaze.
"so, chan and i were thinking about the song," jisung started. "we thought that we could maybe start recording in chan's studio this sunday."
"this sunday?" jeongin exclaimed. "but what if i mess up or i'm not good enough?"
"you'll be fine," jisung smiled. "your voice is beautiful, and we can just do another take if you mess up."
after a couple minutes of chatting, felix stood up.
"well we better get going," felix said, patting jisung's arm. jeongin stood up as well and watched as the couple walked over to the door.
"see you on sunday!"
jisung sat on chan's couch, practicing his rap while waiting for jeongin to arrive.
"you know, we should start working on the last three tracks of our album," changbin said, tapping his fingers on his arm. "we aren't even done with the instrumental tracks for them yet."
"yeah, i think-" chan was cut off by the doorbell.
"changbin go open the door."
"you go get it! it's your own house."
"you lose if you don't play, rock paper scissors!"
jisung rolled his eyes and got up to open the door. jeongin stood there, his face stretched in a nervous smile. jisung held open the door and sighed again as he heard changbin slap chan's arm.
"okay guys, jeongin's here. lets practice and record," jisung said and clapped his hands twice to get everyone's attention. "if we can finish in less than six hours, we can go to my house and watch movies and stay up late."
the four boys ended up finishing recording in five hours. the entire time, jisung found his eyes drift to jeongin with his eyes that seemed to hold the stars, fluffy brown hair, and sweet smile that showed off his braces. jisung had to shake his head violently a couple of times to focus so that they could be productive and record his parts. even after leaving chan's house, jeongin's voice rang quietly in the back of his mind as he made his way back home.
a couple hours after arriving at jisung's house, jeongin found himself chosen as the judge of an aegyo battle between jisung and changbin.
how did he get there?
he had no idea.
all he knew was that the two were being too loud and throwing popcorn everywhere, and jeongin just wanted to watch the movie in peace. the battle was brought to a halt when jisung's phone rang and he had to take the call.
"my bitchass brother will entertain you while the only source of good humor in this group leaves to take this call," jisung shouted as he stepped out of the living room. "mark, get down here."
after a couple minutes of conversation with jisung's older brother, jisung plopped down next to jeongin and took a sip of mark's watermelon juice.
"felix is coming over."
jeongin felt himself clench his jaw and furrow his brow slightly.
"i have to get back to work. tell felix i say hi and that he owes me 10000 won," mark said and stepped out of the room, nodding at the four boys in the room and resting his gaze on jeongin with a thoughtful look. jeongin was the first to look away, and forced his face to stay relaxed.
but he couldn't help it when his hands curled into small fists as felix walked in the house and gave jisung a peck on the cheek. a weird sort of sadness seemed to cover his entire body like a weighted blanket, and he saw chan giving him another strange glance. he smiled at chan and turned away.
