"Cassian Voltaire!" A faint voice shouts
"Cassian!" He hears again
Cassian blinks his eyes open to see an elderly man, none other than his dear friend, Elston looking down at him.
"Why are you asleep in my barn Cassian? Last time I checked you had a giant castle." Elston chuckles
Cassian sits up, looking down at the pile of hay under him as he recalls the events of the previous night.
" Mmm yes I need a break, my cousin is in charge." He says
"Your cousin?" Elston asks
Cassian nods
" He wants to kill me but he'll watch over everything for me." he says
Elston looks at Cassian like he had grown a second head
"You are a prince, you cant just run away, Cassian." He says
" Yes, I can and I will, There is something I am after plus I told them I would be back." He says
" You told your father that?" He asks
" No of course not, I told my cousin to tell my father." He chuckles
" What could you possibly be after? You have everything." Elston says confused
The old man's comment made Cassian smile for his old friend couldn't be more wrong. Cassian had nothing, he felt nothing.
"There is a witch of the name Seraphina. She has great powers and she can help me. She can erase my immortality." He says
Elston's eyes bulge out of his head
" But you've spent half your life preparing to be king, you're the only rightful heir. You can't rule the dark lands without your immortality." He tells him
" I know that Elston but that is not what I want. I'd rather die than spend one more second in that god awful castle. If there is a chance out there that I could live a normal life, I'm going to take it." He says simply
Elston nods in understanding
" Won't they go looking for you? The journey is dangerous and you still have weaknesses." He says
" Of course they will but I'm good at hiding and I can protect myself." He says
" Your father will have every creature in the dark lands looking for you." He says
" I know that but I am still willing. I have to try." He says
Elston nods
" When do you leave?" He asks
He looks up at the sky that's growing darker by the minute.
" Now" He says standing up
He pats Elston on the shoulder
" I will be back my friend! Next time we speak hopefully I'll look like you." He says
Elston chuckles whilst Cassian begins to walk away
" Getting old is not as fun as you think, Cassian!" He shouts after him
" I'm sure it's not but I'm determined to find out for myself." He says
Cassian looks on into the forrest ahead of him, unknowing of his future but every part of him felt wherever he was headed was right, he had to be right.
and so his journey begins..
