He put the ring on the top of the ice cream cone like a topping, bent down on his knees and said,
"We met 29 days back at this party which both of us found really lame and stupid. But thanks to that boring party, I got you. You, my dearest, are the happiest and the liveliest person I have ever seen. There is a cribbing baby, a protective mother, and an ideal lover inside of you. I know, the time we've spent is really short to take decisions like these but my love, I couldn't wait any further to make myself yours. I've spent 30 years of my life lost, looking for someone and probably myself too. But when I met you, it all fitted right in. Just like your hands do in mine.
So, Mr Arjun Sehgal, would you want to spend the rest of your life pampering me? Would you like to have breakfast in bed and cuddles to sleep? Would you want to have me to help you to decide what tie to wear with which shirt? Would you like to grow old together? Would you like to ditch uninterestingly dull parties and chill with your PJs on?
Will you say I do? Will you marry me, Arjun Sehgal?"
"Oh God, say yes already Arjun!" Yells Shibani.
"Yes. Yes. A thousand times Yes!"
He placed the ring on my finger. Shibani put Reena aunty on a video call, where Dadi called her to Newcastle for Roka Ceremony. Reena aunty came to Newcastle 2 days later. Dadi decided that the Roka Ceremony will be done on New Year's Eve. It was a very private ceremony with just our family. I wanted to call my friends but due to New Year, the flight tickets weren't available.
Mom and aunty did our tikas and we exchanged gifts. Dadi gave us gold chains as sagan. We all spent the rest of the week together. And, aunty left for India after we finalized the date for the wedding.
It was going to be a Christian Wedding, just like my fiance wanted. God, calling him my fiance gives me a whole new different feeling. I had butterflies in my stomach.
Yesterday was our Haldi ceremony. And, now it may look really weird to celebrate only one Indian ritual with a Christian Wedding, but it was Dadi's wish. And, a big surprise was planned for me by my in-laws.
I was told that it would be just family. On the day of the function, we were all dressed up in pretty yellows. Shibani, my sister-in-law, picked me up from home. I was blindfolded. I was really curious to know the surprise.
When we reached there, Shibani led me to the garden, where everything was set up. It went dead silent as I stepped in.
Then I heard a voice or voices, should I say.
"Tooti Chaarpai Wohi, Thandi Purvaai Rasta Dekhe..
Doodhon Ki Malaai Wohi, Mitti Ki Suraahi Rasta Dekhe...
Kaisi Teri Khudgarzi, Lab Namak Rame Na Misri..

My fiance opened my blindfold and I saw all my friends. Vivaan, Rajat, Pratyush, Jay, Syaahi, Anirudh, Shubhit and his wife Ayesha along with little Zain, Aarvi and Bhaumik, Ana and Sumit, Zoya and Divyansh, Matthew and Monica, along with Abeer and Sanskriti are here.
Too long a description, but honestly, this is my chosen family and this is one thing I'll never regret. They make me what I am. All of them, they complete me.
Firstly, we did the rituals and then the sweet little ceremony turned into a violent Holi party with everyone painting everyone yellow. After all the painting and coloring, we all changed and got busy in the preparations for the big day.
And today, the board saying 'Rishabh weds Arjun' is hanging proudly on the entrance.
Everyone is here to celebrate our day with us. Elders and youngsters, bachelors and couples, friends and relatives and Aafia.
