Prologue

The docks were eerily quiet. The soft swaying of the seawater and the heavy breaths of the hooded figure sharply contrasted the silence.
The stranger huffed as he dragged the limp figure towards the dark water, and the moonlight shone against the deep red blood.

The heavy body had been sucked dry of all life, and bright clouds of crimson bloomed as the body sunk beneath the water.

The seasalt stung the man's bloody and scarred hands as he pushed the body away from the docks.
Maybe on a different day he would have bothered to drive the limp man farther down the shore, but he couldn't have blood staining the bed of his friend's truck. It would arise too many questions.

The bloody man sighed. If that old man had simply went his way and not bothered anyone, maybe he would still be alive right now.
With less gore, it might've been a laughable situation, but only those with very poor taste wouldn't run away screaming.

The man stared down at the red liquid seeping into the old wood. His red hair was almost the same hue, having been dyed after he had to go back home with the ends of his hair bloody, and he wasn't making that mistake again. He had gotten better at keeping the fluids off his black clothes, but his hands were a very different story. They had to be cleaned at least five times in order to remove both the blood and the horror. It used to be more, but that was when he was weak. It steadily lessened and he knew that he was becoming more of a monster.

He would comfort himself by saying "I can stop when we're together," and "It's okay, you're just keeping him safe, he'll never know."

The only humanity in him was left for his very few friends and one small boy who he had become smitten with. In reality, it was far too late for the bloody man to quit, and far too late for his mind to repair itself. He was long gone, but maybe, just maybe, he could drag his darling little obsession with him.
