Scorpio POV

The overwhelming taste of cinnamon and sugar took over my taste buds in a giant wave of sweetness. I chewed on the small cookie slowly. I could practically feel the anxious gaze of the small girl next to me.

"Well..?" Cancer asked hesitantly. I looked up, my eyes boring into hers. I swallowed the rest of the snickerdoodle before speaking.

"Fourth." I rated, making her huff in disappointment.

"Really? Oatmeal is still your favorite?!" I smirked at her flabbergasted expression.

"It's a classic," I shrugged. To my surprise, a lazy smile rested on my face.

"Jeez, you're such an old lady, Scorpio..." She grumbled. I chuckled in response.

Cancer continued to shove cookies in my face as we walked through the halls, her eyes lighting up when I liked one, and frowning when I didn't. If I was being honest, they were all amazing, I just found her angry expressions hilarious.

Just as I was about to try a shortbread cookie, someone's giant shoulder rammed into Cancer. She fell to the ground, her container of desserts crashing to the floor with her. "Watch where you're going, pipsqueak."

Cancer bit her lip nervously and looked down. "I'm sorry..." She mumbled.

I had only known this girl for a day, but if there was one thing I was sure of, it was this. She was a good person, and one of the only people in this shitty school that didn't treat everyone else like a piece of crap.

So like hell I'd stand by and watch some douche make her feel bad.

"Hey asshole!" I roughly grabbed the guy's arm and yanked it back towards me. "Apologize."

"And why would I do tha-" I twisted his arm behind his back, gripping his wrists hard.

"DO IT, DIPSHIT! NOW!" When he still didn't say anything, I pushed him roughly, and punched him in the jaw.

"Scorpio, STOP!" Cancer yelled as I continued to attack him. She was on her feet now, trying to pull me away. When that didn't work, she backed up to avoid being hit.

"I SAID STOP!" She shrieked loudly. Suddenly, I was pulled apart from the boy, but not by a person. In fact, there wasn't anyone near me. I put my hands up to find a clear blue sphere surrounding me. I pushed against it, but to no avail. The wall wouldn't move, no matter how much force was applied to it.

The other guy took this opportunity to run away, and quickly disappeared down the hall, and left Cancer and I alone. I rammed my shoulder against the mystery force. It was still just as indestructible.

That was confusing enough as it is, but what baffled me further was that when I looked at Cancer, her eyes were glowing a brilliant blue, almost as if moonlight had been trapped within her eyes. She released a shaky breath and dropped to her knees.

The light in her eyes slowly faded, until they were back to their original hazel color. The barrier that had surrounded me was gone, and the hallway was back to normal like it was never there in the first place.

"Wha- what just happened?" Cancer asked breathlessly, trembling as she looked down at her shaking hands.

"I...I don't know..." I admitted quietly. What I just saw was crazy. Absolutely insane. There was a possibility I imagined it all — a side effect of some sort from not sleeping well — but that theory was thrown out the window as soon as Cancer saw it as well.

"But your eyes, they were... they were glowing..!" Fear filled her face, and I immediately regretted opening my mouth.

"...Did I do that?" She whispered in horror. I didn't know how to respond, so I stayed silent. "O-oh my god!"

I pulled her into my chest. Almost on instinct, she wrapped her arms around my neck and sobbed into my jacket. I rubbed her back soothingly — or at least I hoped it was soothing — and let her use me as her own personal tissue.

If Cancer really was the one who triggered that barrier...was it going to happen again?
