Ouija board

It was a cold Saturday night. After a tiresome week at school, it was finally time to relax.

That is why I was sitting in my room along with my two childhood friends Nyle and Tato who were staying over the weekend at my house.

Nyle's facial expression was impassive that I had to check if she was alive or not.

With no better way to check it, I kicked her legs and she yelped in surprise.

Looks like I broke someone's reverie. Oops!

It was after an hour and a half that we got tired of talking and I yawned louder than I am proud of. The tiredness of our busy week was showing.

"Hey sleepy bones", Tato shook me to get my attention.

I raised an eyebrow and waited for his response. Here I and Nyle were looking like zombies from our fatigue. On the other hand, Tato was looking like he just drank some energy drink. When he pointed to his bag as a response I didn't understand what he was referring to?

He threw his bag at me on my confused expression and asked me, "Look inside, will you?"

What turned out from his bag was a simple greyboard. An Ouija board to be exact. I recognized the alphabets, numbers and yes-no signs. It was the first time I have seen an Ouija board outside of old television shows.

"What is this ancient thing doing in your bag?" I narrowed my eyes on my two best friends in suspicion. Tato looked exhilarated. I'm aware of this look because this is the face he makes when he's about to cause trouble. Then I moved my gaze to Nyle whose cheeks were getting red and she was finding the bedsheets below her pretty interesting right at that time. Someone can say she looked like a thief who has been caught red-handed.

"What is happening, guys?" I was getting impatient with their silence. "You both know how I feel about these things. Moreover, if mom caught us we're all screwed."

"Relax Gina, it's for fun sake. Don't be a party popper. I don't know when we'll again get a chance like this." Tato said trying to convince me.

"What chance you're talking about?" It was Nyle's turn to look confused.

"The chance of being a kid. Soon we'll graduate and will be expected to behave as an adult. This is our only chance to behave like the child we are." The more Tato was trying to convince me, the more I was asking myself. Why are my friends so weird?

"Nyle I can't believe you're going along with this. Aren't you afraid of these things?" Someone got to support me, right?

"No, no I'm not afraid. This will be fun, believe me. Please Gina".

How can I say no after that, after all, I have always been softhearted when it came to Nyle. As weird she is, I can't help but find her cute.

"Okay, whatever. Let's get done with this quickly. But I'm warning you if anyone came to me crying later I will kick your butts." I made myself clear.

"Yessssss" Tato jumped in his place. I don't know where this guy brings out so much energy. I'm guessing this childishness of my friends will end soon as we will soon get bored with this stupid board game.

Nyle put out the planchette to place over the board, candles and matchstick from her bag. She moved to switch off overhead bulbs while Tato lighted the candles.

It's amazing how candles can change the whole environment of the place. A few minutes ago my room was looking cosy and girlish. And now it was just our illuminated faces by candlelight and our shadows in the background. From the window, I could see the moonlight coming in. It was beautiful in a creepy way. I've always been fond of candlelight. The flames have always intrigued me.
