Snowkit stood there in the freezing water, the water reaching up to his flank. He was confused, and he was cold. He started wailing for his mother, Sorreltail, but he was not heard. Snowkit finally gave up and waded out of the water. He felt scared, and alone. He was lost, and he known they would've continued their journey without him by now. He had lost all hope of being found. He walked and walked until it was dark, and he decided to make a den, or a nest. He found a small cave and gathered some moss for his nest. He padded over to his nest, more moss in his mouth, and carefully laid down in the darkness. Snowkit let out a long sigh and closed his eyes, and soon his breathing slowed and he was asleep.
**********
Snowkit was in the nursery, curled up in his old nest. He started stretching until he heard a voice.
"Rest now youn done, you have a long journey ahead of you." The she-cats voice was soothing, and he looked up to see a tortishell she-cat, that smelled like herbs.
"Who are you?" Snowkit asked the tortishell.
"I am Spottedleaf, former medicine cat of Thunderclan."
"So youre a Starclan cat? A-am I dead?" Snowkit frantically stood up.
"No, Snowkit youre just a long way from home, and I am here to help you." Spottedleaf explained. Snowkit was listening to Spottedleaf intently...until he realized He was listening to Spottedleaf.

"I-I can hear?" Snowkit asked with suprise.

"Yes you can young one. But, brace yourself." Spottedleaf's milky voice faded away and so did her figure.

"Wait! What do you mean 'Brace yourself'?" Snowkit asked, trying to follow the she-cat through the brambles. But she was gone.

*********

Snowkit woke with a start. Just a dream. Snowkit thought to himself. He padded out of his small cave, breathing in the fress dawn air. His stomach was growling and he was hungry. He knew he would have to eat sometime. He decided he was going to hunt for freshkill. Snowkit heard a rustle in the grass and began stalking his prey, he waited a few moments and then pounced. But, there was nothing under his paws.

"Fox dung!" Snowkit sat down, dissapointed.

"I hear you." A strange tom voice came from behind him. Snowkit jumped, startled.

"I..I can...HEAR you?" Snowkit asked, extremely confused.

"Can you usually NOT hear other cats?" The tom asked.

"Who are you?"

"I am Leo, my housefolk should be expecting me home soon."

"You're a Kittypet." Snowkit spat the last word.

"A kitty what? I am a house cat. Would you like to come meet my housefolk? They would gladly feed you." Leo said, a warm inviting grin spreading across his muzzle.

Snowkit thought for a while. He thought Leo would see him as lost or weak if he admited he was a kit.

"I am Snowpaw. I am training to be a Warrior. I will not let a twoleg take care of me." Snowkit spat, trying to sound brave.

"Okay, Okay fiesty one. If you ever need anything, my housefolk live right there." Leo flicked his tail toward a large yellow and green house.

"I don't need your help, Kittypet," Snowkit snarled. "Leave me be."

Leo stalked off, clearly suprised Snowkit had turned down the life of a Kittypet. Snowkit stalked back to his cave, and curled up in his damp moss nest. With a grunt, he fell asleep.

******

Snowkit woke to three kits, a couple moons younger than him, pawing at him.

He could see what they were saying, "'Are you Snowpaw?' 'Why isn't he waking up?' 'Guys shutup and hide I think he is waking up.'"

Snowkit rose to his paws. He couldn't see where the three kits went, nor could he hear if they were speaking. Why had he been able to hear the tom? Was he just dreaming meeting the Kittypet? He wandrered on, hoping to get more freshkill today. He couldn't hear the bushes rustling, and he couldn't hear the prey scuttling through the bushes. He did, however, scent Leo and he did see the brambles quiver, and Leo walked out, with freshkill in his jaws.

Leo walked over to Snowkit and placed the freshkill at his paws. This was the first time Snowkit had seen Leo's face up close. Leo had white fur with ginger patches, one blue, and one green eye.

"What is this?" Snowkit snapped.

"Food. For you." Leo said and sat down, wrapping his tail across his paws.

"I told you, I don't need your help!" Snowkit growled.

"Okay, but I'm going to leave this food right here." Leo said and stalked away.

Snowkit starred at the prey longingly. What had Leo called it? Food? What a weird word for prey. Snowkit looked around, hoping Leo had left. He carried they prey back to his nest and started eating. He lay in his nest, not sure what to do. Wait a moment, Snowkit thought, Why could I hear Leo, but not those three kits? Snowkit was completely dazed, and soon, he fell asleep.

Three nights have passed, and he hadn't even bothered looking for his Clanmates. He figured his Clanmates would be better off without him, with him being deaf and all. He was probably just a burden. Snowkit walked outside, only to bump into Leo, and the three kits he had seen a few days ago.

"Snowpaw, these are my kits. Tori, Snatcher, and Joy. Their mother died while giving birth to them."

Tori looked exactly like her father, even the same eye colors. Snatcher, probably a tom, was silver like stone. Snatcher reminded Snowkit of Stormfur, a Riverclan cat. Joy looked nothing like either of her siblings. Joy was jet black, with brown eyes, so dark they looked black too.

Snowkit was a little frightened by Joy.

"Dad, is this the wild cat you were telling us about?" Tori gazed up at her father.

"Yes, indeed." Leo's voice changed when he talked to his kits.

"Dad, why is he so small?" Snatcher asked. Snowkit didn't like being called small. Snowkit growled and bared his teeth, scaring the younger kit. Snatcher wimpered and ran behind his father.

Snowkit stalked away whipping his tail as he did. Tori and Snatcher looked dissapointed, Joy just glared at Snowkit, which made Snowkit walk to his cave faster. He started running, the trees, bushes, and flowers just blurred together as he whipped by. Until Snowkit felt the ground disappear beneath his paws, and soon he was falling into nothingness.
