I heard Ms. Farbell yelled from downstairs that there was a couple here to looking to foster. As usual the three kids I bunked with all grumbled and started putting nice clothes on and fixing their hair. I didn't bother, no one ever chooses the older kids, they all want kids under 11. Everyone that has fostered me has returned my in about two or three weeks, cause I'm to old for them to actually adopt. One of my roommates talked me into getting ready, so I put on an old Black Veil Brides hoodie, some boot cut pants, and my old cowboy boots. I followed everyone downstairs and we all took our places, everyone stood in a line to meet the new family. The couple seemed very nice, the lady had long blond hair, she was wearing a baby blue summer dress with a pink Oleanders on it. The man, who I'm guessing is her husband based on the wedding rings. He had on a black flannel with the top two buttons un done, he had on boot jeans and some dirty boots on. He also had a rodeo belt buckle. I got a small smile on my face when I realized they probably weren't a couple looking for the perfect kid. After a few minutes of looking, I sat down on the couch, played some music and just zoned out, not really interested in "being my best" for the couple. I reached into my satchel and started working on one of my drawings. It was a mare that I kept seeing in my dreams, she had this gorgeous black coat and a flowing mane. She seemed to be black as the night, except for when she turned her head and she also seemed to always be dirty. She was never clean and you could always see the dust on her coat. She had one marking that was visible it was a white crescent on her left eye. I didn't notice the man standing behind me until he said that it was an incredible drawing. I jumped out of my seat and quickly paused my music so I could hear him better.
"I'm sorry, what did you say?" I asked the man politely.
"I said that that is an incredible drawing"
"oh, thank you" I replied, "I'm Atlas, and you are?"
"I'm Julian, it's nice to meet you Atlas." the man, Julian, told me.
"You too," I said, putting my headphones in to signal that we were done with our short conversation.
"Who is this honey?" I heard Julians wife walk up and ask.
"Oh, hey babe, this is Atlas." he replied.
"Well then, hello Atlas Im May."
"Hello May" I replied, not really interested in talking so the couple.
I watched out of the corner of my eye as the couple walked away towards Ms. Farbell, obviously asking questions about all the kids. A few minutes later I looked over to see them pointing at me, I was kinda shocked that such a nice couple would ask about me. I started to freak out as all three of them walked over to me. I didn't wan't them to see my panic so I calmly closed my sketchbook and took out my headphones; fixing my posture and taking my feet off the couch. I sat at full attention to what they were going to say to me.
"Atlas, Julian and May have something to say to you." Ms. Farbell informed me.
"ok, what is it?" I asked, unsure.
"Well, May and I talked a little bit, and we were wondering if, if you wan't to, we both wanted to adopt you, except we live out in Montana." Julian informed me.
"Ok, I'm cool if you want to foster me, but why are you all the way out here?" I asked, curious as to why they would adopt all the way out here.
"oh, well we were visiting some of Mays family out here and they asked when we were going to have a kid, we've been having troubled conceiving so we didn't know and neither of us really wanted to raise a kid.. Her relatives then mentioned that there was an orphanage out here with older kids, how old are you? If you don't mind me asking" Julian explained asking a quick question after.
