THE LAST TIME THE CAMP HAD A CHARIOT RACE, SIERRA HAD MISSED IT. After Chiron returned she was sure she'd never get to see much less participate in a race.
She didn't really have a desire to participate, the sport in itself just seemed not quite her style. Instead, she opted to watch on and wait for her sister to kick Percy's ass, or the other way around. Before the quest she knew the outcome with certainty, but after being around Percy for a little while, getting to know him and seeing him fight, and more importantly his complete inability to give up on anything ever, she couldn't be sure.
One thing was for sure, Sierra was no longer ignoring Percy Jackson. She didn't exactly watch him, but she was definitely more aware of his presence now than before. Not that it took much. Before she had barely noticed him.
Now, she stood just to the edge of the track. Leaning against the stadium seats erected for the event and watching the charioteers prepare.
"What are you doing?" She looked up, to find Sidney Jester leaning way over from her spot in the seat above her and watching her. Children of Hermes, another term for a pain in her ass.
"Nothing," Sierra said firmly, and returned her eyes to the track. Sidney's eyes stayed on her though, she could feel the weight of her gaze like a physical thing. She pointedly ignored the Hermes girl. Normally, she'd fix her with a steel glare, fire burning in her irises to terrify her until she looked away. She didn't even bother now, she honestly just didn't care enough.
"Well couldn't you do nothing in the seats?" Sidney asked, Sierra ignored her. "I mean, I'm not an expert or anything. I'm just a humble thief who is well versed in the uncomfortability of standing for hours on end."
"From standing in a cell I'm sure," Sierra snapped. She'd been getting more irritated easier lately, and she had a feeling it had something to do with what she'd done to the sirens. She was more emotional in general, finding it more difficult to stifle them.
"Yes." Sidney said, shrugging. Rather unfazed by her admittance to spending time in a jail cell. Then again, that wasn't exactly abnormal for children of Hermes.
"Whatever," Sierra said. Sidney shrugged, and returned to sitting, leaving Sierra in her own silence.
The race was rather uninteresting. Percy almost died, and almost killed other people multiple times before ultimately winning. Sierra wasn't all that intrigued by the whole situation. It seemed rather dull and unimportant. Clarisse, of course, was pissed off beyond measure at the turn of events, and took to ranting as they all walked to dinner together.
Honestly, after so many days away from home, Sierra felt good to be sitting at Ares table again. There were twelve of them in total during the summer months, but it was usually just Sierra, Clarisse, and Sherman when the school year was in session.
