"They say opposites attract... but we're more similar than you think."

Cia wasn't the type to gossip, or even socialise. Social media? What's that? She was that one quite kid at the back of class, wishing she didn't exist. Having a tragic past, she finds her comfort within the presence of books, not people. She finds reality stranger than fiction, and she was lured in by the blind way fantasy describes a whole different world from hers.

It was just how she works. Reality wasn't fond of her, and she felt the same about reality.

"Hey, Cia? Wanna go to the party on Wednesday?"

She'd turn it down every time. A party? Just thinking about it makes her hands cold, and she'd sweat bullets. She'd rather dig a ditch and die instead of going, thank you very much. Of course, she was too timid and reserved to turn it down rudely. She shook her head. There was another release of her favourite series. She was going to the library at Wednesday for it. Her love for books was so strong, she went outside her apartment.

The people around her were always confused why she'd always turn it down. She was very pretty. What a waste. They thought. Cia knew what they always thought about and whisper. It was always 'what a waste. She's pretty too.'. She just... wasn't the type to drink and dance about. She'd rather rearrange her whole book collection and just cuddle her pillows while reading away.

She liked the feeling of the world around her disappear as the world of dragons and princesses would appear instead, and she'd revel in the excitement. It was the only time she'd feel such adrenaline.

Of course, there were people who wanted to be friends with her. With that beauty, who wouldn't? Some even liked her because of her shy demeanour. Sure, she'd accept their befriending but... it was exhausting. Keeping up with trends she never really understood, and the latest gossip she never really cared about, always was.

"Are you sure? There'll be free food there."

"O-oh... um, I'll just... stay at home..." she fumbled with her fingers and bit her bottom lip. She zipped her backpack up. It was time to go. She never knew why, but she found herself smiling every time she would walk home. It was something like a luxury for her. She was an introvert, that was one thing. But she still found it amusing how she would close the front door behind her, and just jump in her bed.
She'd smile gleefully and turn on her music and pull out a stack of books. "Oh. That's alright" her friends frowned.

They loved her and all but it wasn't healthy being pent up in her own house just because she didn't want to socialise. What will happen to her when she'll finally live alone? They didn't want to force her because they know what'll happen... they keep frowning at the memory. She was forced to go when she was a freshman and well... she just evacuated to the bathroom stalls and hyperventilated.

"...I-I'm sorry... I want to go but- um... I'm sorry..."

She stood up from her desk, and waved goodbye. Her friends smiled a bit snd shook their heads. She'll be alright. Despite that anxiety, and worrying anti-social demeanour, they saw it in her. A quite strength. She was a pillar they can lean on. The ideal friend. She was kind, comforting. A warmth the other cold lonely kids were drawn into. And she'd hesitantly accept them, but they knew it wasn't out of hate, or even annoyance. It was because  she was unsure of herself.

"Okay... so if I can go home early... yeah..."

"S-see you l-later!" She waved once more and went on her way when her friends reminded her to message them if she needed something. She reassured them it was fine, and thanked them for their concern. She'd be fine... she had her roommate anyways.

"Mellisa? A-are you h-home?" She peeked her head into the door way. There was no reply. She shook her shoes off and rubbed her cold bare feet against the furry carpet. It was warm, reassuring. She went into her room, and plopped down on the fluffy blankets. She took her laptop out to do her homework.

When she noticed a notification... what's this? Someone texted her? She... she didn't know this person... at all...

Harris Chandler:

Did you do your homework yet?

Who- who's 'Harris'?. She panicked. Her fingers trembled and kept slipping off her keyboard. Should she reply? Ignore it? He knows she read it... so what should she do? Maybe it was someone from her class so she can't exactly say she doesn't know who he is... that'll be rude! So should she- she reply? What was she suppose to do? Oh no- oh no-

Harris Chandler:

I know you read this. Please answer me.

Cia:
I think you have the wrong number... I'm sorry...

Little did Cia know,

That one message would change her life.
