Chapter 1- Pancakes.

Rinkei's P.O.V-

Rinkei! Rinkei, wake up! T-the fire nation, their here!" The man screams. "Rinkei, you need to find-" he stops as he engulfs in flames. Flames I made.

"AHHH!!" I scream, waking up from my nightmare. The same nightmare that's been haunting me ever since I awoke from my coma. It always ends with that same man engulfing in flames, he never finishes his sentence. He never tells me what I need to find...

"Rin! Are you alright?" My sister calls as she bursts into my room. She may seem... well an emotionless weirdo, but she's very caring and pretty funny at times.

"I-im alright, just a nightmare..." I say as I bury my head in my arms. Truth is I'm nothing close to alright, in these nightmares... haunting me, I'm a murderer... I'm a monster. I feel an arm wrap around my shoulders, my sister trying to comfort me, but no one can change what I have done in these nightmares..., it never changes, he always dies. I close my eyes, but that same image pops up in my mind, that man burning in my flames. I jump and tears flood my cheeks.

"Shh, it's okay. I'm here Rin," my sister says. " You'll be alright."

"Mom is making fire flake pancakes, your favorite!" She quickly adds. I can always count on her to cheer me up. So with knowing there are fire flake pancakes being made I couldn't resist. I jump out of my bed and burst down the hallway leading to the kitchen, seeing mother place a plate of my favorite dish on the table. Right on time! I quickly dash in taking a seat by my Father and immediately gulf down my breakfast, tasting that spicy flavor burn on my tounge. Mother's cooking is the best. Mai? Not so much. Never let her cook! It always ends with a house catching on fire. As I reach for another pancake i see an empty plate. Seriously, I'm a growing boy! I need food! So, I scan everyone's plates, Mai's empty. Dad's full... of course, but he never shares. Mom's empty. Tomtom's one left. Haha! Easy target. I silently scoot my chair closer to his highchair and begin my tormenting.

" Hey Tom. I wouldn't eat that if I were you. If you do you'll turn into a hog monkey!" I torment my little brother, but all I get is his little warm smile and he stuffs the pancake in his mouth. Oh right, I forgot hog monkeys are his favorite animal...

"Rinkei, leave your brother alone. Let him eat in peace." My mother snaps. I turn back to stick my tounge out at my brother. He giggles and pulls the pancake out of his mouth as he tries to say "Share?" I examine the pancake, it's covered in his slobber. I gag in disgust.

"No thanks." I respond. And he simply stuffs it back in his mouth. As I talk to my brother, a knock on the door interrupts our conversation. A knock from the one and only Princess Azula. Man, she creeps me out. She wanted to talk to my sister Mai, as usual. I try to listen to their conversation but all I got out of it was, "Avatar". The avatar? How does Mai have anything to do with the Avatar? I guess Azula is just like her brother, the banished prince. I've heard stories about him, he's searching for the Avatar to regain his honor. I don't like this prince guy, or his creepy sister. My sister and Azula walk out the door, whatever their up to, It doesn't sound good. Why do they want the Avatar so badly? Did he do something wrong? I'm going to find out. So I need a plan. I glance over at my parents then Tomtom and back again. I can offer my mom to take Tomtom on a walk, but I'll actually be following Mai and the Princess to figure out what their planning. Its simple. I always take Tomtom out on a morning walk around the city, but Mother and Father always come with us,...maybe this won't be as simple as I thought.

"Hey mother. Can Tomtom and I go on our morning walk alone today?" I ask. She stops what she's doing and looks up with her ever so frightening glare. Oh no. Maybe I should just forget finding out what their doing. I don't want to experience mothers wrath today. But...., I'm a very curious boy, a very dashing curious boy, I may add.

"And where do you plan on going, Rinkei?" My mother's glare darkens, as her cold eyes sink into mine. I gulp and try to convince her.

"I was just offering to take my beloved brother to...uh a walk in the park. I know he loves going to the park. You wouldn't want to disappoint our Tomtom, would you mother?" I ask with a mischievous grin plastered on my tan face. She jumps and her glare disappears.

"Oh. No of course not! You certainly may, Rinkei." My mother says as she grabs my red hat and plops on my head, covering my eyes. She pushes Tomtom and I out the door. "Just don't get into any trouble, mister!" Man, she really wants us gone now. Well, she does hate disappointing Tomtom. He always goes on a rampage when he doesn't get what he wants.

Now. Let's do this. Detective Rinkei on the case! Or whatever. I fix my hat, and pull it to the side. I grin and turn to face my brother.

"Okay. So here's the plan, Tom." I explain. "We are going to go find Mai, alright?" His warm smile vanishes. His eyes become red and puffy filled with tears. Oh great. There's those puppy eyes. Jeez, Tom. Why you doing this to me?

"Tom. C'mon man. We can go to the park after, Okay? We need to find Mai,"

"Bah! N-now!" He squeals. Hey, you hear that? Yeah, that's my heart screaming, 'Oh, c'mon Rinkei! Look at that face! You can't say no to that adorable face!'

"Gah! Fine! Just for a little while, alright? Then we go find Mai." He giggles and crawls away slowly. Heading to the park. Just for a little while, right? We can find Mai and Azula later. Everything will be fine...
