The name's Kristen. Kristen Meyers. I'm sixteen, going on seventeen. I'm a high school student at Barnes High, and that school is boring as hell.
It would be even more boring if it weren't for my best friend, Emma Jones. She's super funny and nice. She's kinda crazy, but I can handle it. She can always see the positive in any situation. (Yes, she's a "glass half full" person.) She's pretty popular too. But I don't blame people for making her the popular one. She's a blonde, which all the guys at my school dig, and she has these super pretty green eyes. She's also super skinny and petite, which is another thing all the guys at my school love.
Her style is what I like to consider "basic." She wears high waisted jean shorts a lot with pretty basic crop tops. She always has her nails match her outfits too. She likes to paint them the color that's the least pop color on her outfit in order to bring out the color, and it works. Despite her style being that basic, the guys still dig her basic outfits. But that doesn't matter, because she has a boyfriend, but we'll discuss him later.
Emma and I have a lot in common. For example, we're both really good at math. She likes to tutor people after school, I have other things to do. Her schedule is pretty open, mine isn't. Whether I'm doing homework, shopping, or murdering people, I just never have the time.
But my favorite thing that we have in common? We both don't have parents. Her parents were explorers. One time they went out to explore a brand new cave discovered. The cave must have fell in on them, and her parents didn't make it. She lives with her boyfriend now. Her boyfriend's parents are basically her parents, but she never forgets her parents. It's just a great conversation topic. We can both relate, so we can talk about the real stuff. It's nice having a friend to be able to talk to about that stuff.
But my favorite question about us is "How did we meet?"
Kristen Meyers opened her locker, searching for her English book. She hated English, already putting her in a bad mood. But when she heard the locker next to hers open and saw some blonde hair at the locker, she was beyond pissed.
People would always ask her about that locker, and her response would always be "Sorry, it's taken." No one went to the principal, they just asked Kristen, which was fine by her. She wanted the locker to stay vacant. She liked the extra room.
Kristen grabbed her book and shut her locker door. The blonde did the same. When the door shut, it revealed a tall, skinny blonde girl.
"Hey!" the blonde began. "I'm Emma. You must be my locker neighbor. Well, obviously." The girl chuckled at herself.
"...Yeah," Kristen said, not being able to handle the girl's enthusiasm. "I'm Kristen."
"Great to meet you," Emma began. "Hey, I'm new, again, obviously, and I was just wondering if you could point me in the direction of my next class."
"I gotchu. What class?"
"Mr. Raben's English class."
"Funny, that's my next class. Walk with me."
And Kristen definitely could not have asked for a better locker neighbor.
