"I don't know, Sadie. You're just a lot of work is all. Sometimes I need a break."

The small redhead looked down at her feet as she listened to her caregiver, Victoria, speak.

"Once in a while people need space. You're always crying or needing a change or just being upset about whatever."

Biting her lip, the girl tried to hold back the hurt she felt at the older woman's admission.

"I'm s-sorry. But I p-promise to be b-better!"

Though she tried to sound hopeful, inside she only felt despair. How could Victoria, a person who was supposed to love and care for her, say she was too much?

The older brunette simply sighed and shook her head. The actions caused Sadie's facade of optimism to crack.

"Let me call Ava and see if she'll let you spend the night."

With that, the woman simply walked away and began dialing the number for their mutual friend. She had no intention of arguing further and left the room in an effort to showcase the finality of her words.

Sadie furiously rubbed at her eyes as she tried to keep her tears from spilling over. She knew that Victoria hated when she cried and was afraid of making the situation any worse.

The girl sat quietly, though sniffly slightly, and waited for her caregiver to return. She could hear a muffled voice for several minutes before the sound of approaching footsteps alerted her to Victoria's impending return.

"So I talked to" the woman started and then stopped after seeing Sadie. "Are you crying already?!"

The tiny girl shook her head vigorously to try and conceal her tears. She could hear an exasperated groan come from in front of her.

"Come the fuck on, Sadie. This is exactly why you're going to Ava's house. Now let's get going."

"R-right now? What should I b-bring?"

Victoria threw her hands up angrily.

"Nothing. We don't have time for that. I just need to get this over with. You don't drive so of course I have to drop you off."

The redhead's shame burned inside her and was distinctly visible on her cheeks. She desperately wanted to bring her stuffie, the only toy or comfort item she had, but knew that her caregiver would not allow for it.

Instead, she sadly nodded and headed to the door.

Without a word, the girl slid into the backseat of Victoria's car and buckled her seatbelt. She had inquired about a carseat once before, but the older brunette had simply laughed.

"You're not actually a baby. You don't need a fucking carseat; even if you are small."

The painful memory made her wince and she turned to look out the window. Boston was still such a a beautiful city to her; even with all the rain.
