I sat in the darkest corner of my small room, attempting to hide from the creatures crawling amongst my bedroom floor. They all had altered appearances, ranging in sizes and types of creatures. I couldn't recognize any of the awkward looking things crawling among me. They were climbing up the walls and sitting on my ceiling.
"Michaela, a-are you alright..?" I heard my older sister, Jade, say from outside of my locked wooden door, seperating me from the world. "Go away, you shouldn't care." I heard a voice say, roughly. I didn't recognize my self anymore. I heard soft footsteps going down the carpeted stairs, signaling she had left.
All the creatures were morphing, changing there façade constantly. I was perplexed they hadn't heard me, when I yelled at my sister. Maybe they recognized me as one of their own. I couldn't move, they would sense my movement, which would attract them to me. I can't leave either. I don't want to escape,it's the only place I consider myself welcome, even if these creatures are monsters, I see myself as one of them.
I heard footsteps stop in front of the locked door, and the knob turn. "Don't come in!" I stood. "Y-y-you can't see!" the door opened, flooding the room with light. My father stood in the doorway. "Goddammit, Michaela Golden. You can't just stay up here, hiding from everything. You don't get a lifestyle that easy." He walked over to where I was standing in the now illuminated corner, grabbing my shirt collar and dragging me out of the room. He pushed me down in the hallway, and said "Michaela, you can't stay cooped up in your damn room all the damn time. You're the smart one! Jade dropped out,and she isn't looking too good with her future. And Damian isn't looking too good with his grades." He paused, and I took the moment to stand. I looked to the ground. "Michaela, you're not going to fail school like you're idiot sister, you hear?!" I looked up. "She's not a idiot." I simply said. He brought his hand down to slap me. I simply caught it. I twisted it backwards.
"You don't touch me when your not even a excuse of a father." I pushed his hand a ways from me, and walked back into my room. I sat in the same corner I was pulled out of, staring into blank nothingness.
