Anthony's Pov
My jaw dropped
If that statement were literal my jaw would've fallen off
I quickly stopped in my tracks as I was walking towards Josh
"I'm baaaaaack" she said like it was a Disney channel special event

"A-Avani?" I stuttered
"I thought we-"
"Are you gonna just stand there or are you gonna get up and kiss me?" She chuckled
I looked to Josh who I would've assumed was just as surprised as I was
He looked away as I pushed myself through the water towards the stairs
"You sure you want to hug me I'm all wet" I stalled
"Anthony I haven't seen you in over half a year I wouldn't care if you were covered in mud" she said smiling that smile that I once missed
I let out a small sigh and scurried over to her
I squeezed her tightly despite things having changed I still missed her
She smelled of citrus
I could see Josh's broken expression as I rested my head over her shoulder
As she was facing behind me
I mouthed "Please let me explain"
"Um I'm gonna go I'll leave you two alone" Josh said harshly as he pulled himself out of the pool
Leaving a trail of water on the ground as he slammed the patio door behind him
I didn't mean to hurt him
I didn't know she was coming
I pulled away from the hug looking in her eyes
I needed to know if I still loved her
"Avani...I thought we...Yenno..."
"Thought we what?" she asked staring with her big brown eyes the same ones I was in love with
"I-I don't know I thought we broke up we said we'd stay friends and that we'd talk but...we never did I thought it was over"
"And this was all so sudden I had no idea you were coming"
"Didn't you see my message I couldn't find you until Bryce and Tayler, those two" she chuckled to herself
"I couldn't find you until they told me you were out back"
I remembered my phone dropping in the water
"Anthony I love you I told you that'd never change I love you"

Josh's Pov
I knew it was wrong but I needed to know
I opened one of the windows close to the pool to listen to what they were saying through the screen
"Anthony I love you I told you that'd never change I love you"
My heart began to race
Anthony hesitated briefly but then spoke
"I love you too"
I didn't want to believe the words that I was hearing I didn't want to believe that he loved someone else
I wanted him to take it back
This couldn't be real
"You don't love her stop lying with those words" I whispered to myself
wishing he'd hear me
Wishing that it'd be true

Days had passed

He walked my way holding her hand
In the morning
I had just thrown two waffles in the toaster
They chatted the whole time that I waited for them to heat up
She left finally so I could get a single word in
Moments later she came back
"So what do you guys have pl-"
I was soon cut off
"Babe what were you talking about?" She asked
"Sorry to cut you off Josh" she added
"Oh nothing really" he replied
I let out a sigh
We briefly continued talking before I was cut off once more
"Babe it feels like you guys are ignoring me and I just came here to come visit" she moped
I can't stand her whining
"I'll be back later I'm gonna give you two some alone time"
She smiled sincerely and mouthed me a thanks
"Josh what about your waffles" Anthony started
I had already begun walking away
"YOU TWO CAN HAVE THEM" I shouted from halfway up the steps

Avani's Pov
I saw the way Josh looked at him
I saw the way Josh looked appearance wise too
I was almost worried especially seeing how close they were
"I was thinking about going to visit Charli for the night"
"Good" he said ecstatic
"I mean not good because your leaving or anything just because you know you haven't seen her in a while"
Something was off but for now I just wanted to visit all my friends

Hours later
Anthony's Pov
I kissed her cheek before she hopped into the car
I walked back into the house and immediately ran into Jaden
He raised an eyebrow
"Anthony"
"Yeah" I said confused
"Let's talk"
I nodded and followed him to his room
He shut and locked the door behind him
Then he went to close the blinds
"Oh shit your not gonna kill me or something are you please don't I'll buy anything you want shoes shirts"
"I barely even wear shirts" he scoffed
"True..."
" I'm not going to kill you but-"
"There's a but?" I asked
"Yes there's a but"
He rolled his eyes
I almost burst out laughing my smile wide
"Are you really-" he cut himself off sighing
Once I calmed down he continued
"Anthony why are you pretending?" He asked
"I'm not pretending I do love her"
"Anthony I didn't even tell you what I thought you were pretending...but you knew"
I was now filled with guilt
"Anthony if you don't tell her your gonna end up hurting her even more"
It felt like something was going off in my brain
You don't love her

Josh's Pov
I had been in bed pretty much all day then I felt myself slipping and falling asleep
I woke to Avani next to my bed
It was still dark
"Uh hey, what're you doing in here it seems pretty late" I asked groggily
"Has no one every told you to stay away from things that aren't yours?" She snapped
"But was he yours, if he wanted me so bad?" I asked slyly
Anthony soon walked over
" loving her seems tiring" I said pointing to the girl that was no longer there
"So boy just love me down"

"Down
I began sinking into my bed the mattress couldn't hold me I was now falling

When I woke up

After about an hour of staring at my ceiling I sped my way over to Anthony's room closing his door behind me
"I-I can't sleep" I said quietly
He opened his arms smiling softly
I sat on his bed settling into his embrace
"Let's watch a movie"
I nodded smiling
"Have you watched Call Me by Your Name?" He asked
"I've heard of it but I'm not sure I want to watch some love story of a Romance I'll never have"
"It's not just some love story it's one of my favorites now we've gotta watch it" he snapped back
I layed down next to him
He grabbed the remote and turned on the movie
Occasionally he'd look up at me and smile giving me a warm feeling inside
I pulled him closer to me missing the way it felt to hold him in my arms
Towards the end I noticed that Anthony had fallen asleep but I watched the movie all the way through
I shed tears as the movie ended and kissed his hair
I knew that tomorrow things would change completely
But just for tonight I'd hold him and pretend he was mine
