Into the snow

Part 8: The Promise

Your eyes gazed up into Crystal's and time froze around you. Each beat of your heart seemed to stretch on forever as everything you've ever wanted now stood within your grasp. Her smile and gracefulness warmed you just thinking about it. The wolf pup went over to the goblin and released a stream of urine on its dead face. You glanced down and chuckled before making your way toward Crystal. Each step you took took forever and you couldn't get to her fast enough but when you did you embraced her and she nuzzled her head into your chest. Her voice velvety and smooth rang in your ears. "You made it" her tone was one of worry that has been calmed. A million thoughts went through your head as you tried to come up with something to say but the only thing that came out was "Uh huh" stupid... so stupid why can't you think straight around her.

As the two of you stood there with the snow swirling around them the sun began to set in the distance. Howls of wolves in the valley begin and the night life started to make its first signs in the enchanted forest. "Come lets go to my house." Crystal said and tugged gently on your arm and you followed along without worry. You headed over a few hills of snow and into the thick dark forest. "We won't make it in time." you suggest as the darkness seems to swallow both of you up. "Its freezing and there is no light here." Crystal looked back up into your eyes and stopped she'd gently put her hand on top of yours. "I forget sometimes. My home is just ahead and if you trust me I promise to get you there safe." Her eyes twinkled and each word feel on your ears like honey. You trusted her beyond reason and nodded "Of course" you replied "Lead on." Her frail frame seemed to glide over the snow and you stomped after her. The more you thought about it though she didn't really leave any markings or footprints. The wolf pup followed behind you all sniffing things here and their minding her own business.

Seeing a light come from the distance you followed Crystal until coming upon her home You looked up almost blinking at such an odd place and wondered why its in the middle of nowhere. You took a step forward but her hand stopped you suddenly. "Before you go inside my home you have to promise me something." You nodded "Of course anything." She smiled at that... "No matter what you see inside promise not to panic or freak out, please stay calm ." Your mind races to think of what possible things that would freak you out after such a trip but agree , besides it was freezing cold , night, where else would you go. "I promise." She smiled and hugged you before guiding you through a graveyard into the door leading to her house.
