Rose's POV

I could hear voices as I slowly regained consciousness but I couldn't make out what they were saying. I tried to open my eyes but they wouldn't budge, they felt so heavy. My head was pounding and my whole body felt like a balloon struck by lightning.

I was met with total darkness when I was able to pry my eyes open. I tried moving but my body protested, all my brain could register was the pain. My back, head, waist, stomach, every freaking inch of me hurts.

I brought my hands up to rub my temples hoping that would help ease the throbbing pain in my head- or at least I thought I was.

Something yanked my hands back harshly, I couldn't see what it was but from the clanking sound, it made I could tell I was being held back by chains that circled around my wrist.

Putting my weight on my right elbow I pushed myself up from the hard cold floor which I was laying down on into a sitting position. I still could not see anything.

The voices I heard before had faded and I was left with silence- deafening silence.

Bringing my hands up again the cold, heavy metal around my right wrist clanked again making my drowsy brain finally register that I was chained...

Oh my God! Chains? Why am I chained? Where am I? How did I get here?

Oh God! Oh God!! Oh God!!!

I was now fully conscious and aware, a wave of crippling fear washed over me, the pain in my head and body long forgotten as my brain and body shifts into full panic mode. I drew my hands back harshly in a bid to free myself from the restraints, the hard metal digging into the soft skin of my wrists but I couldn't care less.

Why the heck was I being restrained?

I opened my mouth to call for help or maybe attract the people whose voices I heard earlier. Were they aware I was locked up here? The only sound that managed to escape my throat was a tiny screech, my throat burns.

I remember boarding a plane at Lagos State Airport in Lagos State, Nigeria, heading for the United States where we had gotten a scholarship to school at Yale. When we landed our appointed caretaker Mr John had come to collect us from the Airport and took us to our apartment so we could settle dow-

Lola... Where's Lola?

The anxiety I felt attained a whole new level as I once again began to struggle against the chains making them rattle. "Lola?". My voice came out small I almost couldn't hear myself. "Lola?". I called once again. "Help, Anyone out there? Please, help me!" I felt tears hit my cheeks, not because of the pain in my body or head but from the fear of the unknown, fear of what could have possibly happened to Lola, fear of what was going to happen to me, fear of never seeing Lola or my family ever again.

Keys rattled not too far off and a small sense of relief washed through me. Now I could get out of here and quickly go find Lola. Inaudible voices followed then doors creaking open.

Maybe it was the police and they were here to get me out and help me find my friend.

Heavy footsteps, shuffling and then the lights came on. It was blinding probably the effect of being in the dark for a long time, my eyes shut tightly on their own. As the footsteps came nearer I tried desperately to open my eyes again.

The rattling of keys this time was closer, a door seems to open near me followed by footsteps which stopped right in front of me. I tried hopelessly to be free of the chains again.

Why weren't they unchaining me?

"Good, you're awake."

The voice was very deep and was followed by chuckling. I could make out two different voices.
