The bell rang as Mary-Grace sprinted down the hall. She knew she was late again, but there was no fixing it. As she shuffled into class, her wavy blue locks looked like a windy mess. Her teacher, Ms. Austin, peered at her over her wire rimmed glasses. "Late again, Mary-Grace." Mary-Grace sighed as she pulled her bag underneath her seat. "Before we were so rudely interrupted," continued Ms. Austin, "we were assigning partners for your new science project. Paul didn't have a partner, but thankfully, you're here now." Mary-Grace began to sweat as she glanced over at Paul, who was picking his nose. Groaning with disgust, she heaved her bag on her shoulder and sat near him. Meanwhile, Paul was was ecstatic. This was his chance to prove his love and appreciation for Mary-Grace.
"Hello?", said Mary-Grace. She had been talking this whole time. "What should we do for the project?"
Mary-Grace knew in her head that this was going to be a long week. Paul smiled and said "Whatever you find interesting to do, I'm down." Mary-Grace rolled her eyes and pulled out her notebook. They spent the rest of class making small talk but getting nowhere. Before they knew it, the bell rang for class to end. "Saved by the bell!", Mary-Grace muttered as she packed up to go.
"What should we do for the project, though?", asked Paul.
"Up to you. Maybe we can just make a time machine or something like that. Ha!", joked Mary-Grace.
Little did she know that Paul hung onto these words very closely. When he got home, he immediately began plotting.
