"My story is...my mom woke me up. Right from the start I could tell something was wrong by the way she was looking at me, but she wouldn't say. When I came down the stairs two soldiers were standing in my doorway. They said 'Annalyn Kopperton will be taken by force if necessary.' They pulled me away from my family. They all tried to break free and come and get me. My brother Daniel he he broke free."
I took in a deep breath.
"He's only 8 years old. He ran as fast and as hard as he could toward me. The soldier yelled to another soldier and two ran over to him. They grabbed him by his arms pulling his shoulders out of his sockets or at least close."
My tone turned more to anger.
"They tried to walk him back to the house.and I could see the pain and it drove me mad. I turned to the soldiers and I squirmed one arm free and punch one soldier and then the other. I fought them and the two soldier holding Daniel broke off of him and ran toward me. I dropped them both and ran to Daniel. I hugged him and made him a promise that I will get out and I will be back... and that's exactly what I plan to do."
I stood up and walked over to the bed and ladied down.
"I am sorry to hear that." He said.
"Yeah it does suck." I said grabbing the blanket and wrapping it around me.
"Cold?" He asked.
"Yeah freezing."
"Try getting under the covers."
I sat up and pulled the covers over me and put the blankets over my back and arms. After all I was in my clothes I slept in and a light jacket. I slouched forward and felt something hard and pointed jab my hips.
I took the blanket off my shoulders and dig into my pocket. From it, I removed a hard leather notebook. My journal!
I smiled very happy that I had at least one thing from home with me.
Boside looked over at me with a confused face.
"What's that?" He asked.
I smiled and sighed in relief.
"Uuuummmm. Again... What's that."
"It's my journal!" I replied happily.
"Uh Huh." He said as if he was trying to wrap his small pea-brained head around what I just said.
"You just don't understand I need to have this."
"You need it." I glared at him.
"Yeah."
"So what is exactly in your journal?"
My happy expression turned to a glare in his direction.
"Uhhh nothing that has to deal with you."
He stood up and walked as close to me as he possibly could.
"Seriously, what is in it?"
"Like I said the first time it's nothing that will affect you."
"Ohh come on freckles.." he gave me a pleading look
"Fine! But..freckles... really...Alright if you must know." I breathed out. "It's a book where I record my dreams."
He looked at me oddly.
"These aren't like regular dreams that normal people usually would have."
"What do you mean." He asked.
"It's exactly what I said it was. I have these "dreams" and things happen. Horrible things."I didn't realize but I started to tear and my mind slipped into and old painful memory.
"Eli, come on! You are so slow!" I said as I watched her run up beside me.
"Says you. I am the one on the track and cross country team." She said as she caught up with me.
"Then how I faster than you." I said as I left her in my dust "Come on Eli!"
"I am coming geez!" She yelled back.
We ran across very small backwoods road that no one used anymore. We both laughed as we crossed these great big open grass fields. It felt good for us to be hanging out.
Soon we came to a public area with more open roads and lots of cars. We both stopped and caught our breath.
"Hey Eli what are you going to get."
"I don't know... something new."
We were headed to one of the few Ice cream shops in our town. It the beginning of summer and we wanted to do something fun. After we caught our breath we pushed the button for the crosswalk.
Eventually the white light came on and we looked both ways then started to cross. I walked barely in front of her as we were talking.
"Anna what are you going to get."
"I don't know." She gave me a funny look on her face. "Come on Eli you said you don't know either."
"What ever." She said with her sass as she looked up.
I don't know how but she always knew how to make me laugh.
We both looked forward walking across the road. All the sudden. I felt something Sharp hit me. But before I could react everything went black.
I awoke to lots of noise. I could feel the cuts on my arm. I could feel the blood dripping or rushing from my head, arm, and shoulder.
I turned with hazy vision. But I saw one thing clear. Eli lay on the ground. Stil. Eyes closed with a pool of blood around her head. I jumped to her side and shook her.
"Elizabeth?! Eli! Eli! Eli wake up!"
I turned to the crowd that started to form around us. "You!" I said as I pointed to one person in particular. "Call an ambulance!"
"Don't worry they are already on their way." She replied.
"Eli! Wake up! Please! Don't do this! It's not your time! Eli!"
The sirens came and everything else is a blur as we were both rushed into the ambulance to the hospital. I held Eli's hand.
"Mrs?" Came the voice of one of the EMT's.
"Yes?"
"We need to check your cuts." He said.
"I am fine. Focus on Eli! You can check me out later! Right now she needs your attention. And I am not letting go of her until then."
I was fading in and out of different memory's. Coming to the hospital at least twice a week to check on her. At first the wouldn't let me see her. After I told them who I was and that I was in the very same accident they let me through.
The lady who worked at the front desk knew my name. And she gave me a hug every time I came to see her. Sometimes I couldn't take sitting in that room looking at these machines and knowing that they were inside her.
Melinda ( the lady at the front desk) would give me something to do and would talk with me. Sometimes I would bring my homework and she would help me. The other doctors who were in charge of her would let me help them. They would teach me some "medical basics" as they said.
She was in a coma for months. I learned a lot during that time. They even gave me a position. They let me watch over Eli.
I remember that fateful day that I was watching her and alarms went off and lights started to blink and the machine monitoring her heart rate went bezerk. I knew what it meant. They couldn't bring her back.
