My mom sped down the highway, cracking up. Blasting the radio in my ears as she stuck one of her hands out the window, screaming to the lyrics. At eleven o'clock at night there isn't a lot of people and my mom took that to her advantage. Her wild black hair was flying around going in every direction. Her tiny figure was sat in the seat, drinking her ice tea every now and then. I was in the passenger seat matching to her off key singing. I had my feet resting on the dash board, with my hand out the window, playing with the wind. Staring up at the open sky light in our 2018 red Honda, looking at the stars. If anyone saw us most likely they would've thought we were crazy, but that's how my mom is. She is crazy, adventurous, and didn't give a fuck about what people thought, she was always independent when it came to her and I. My mom is like my best friend and my sister, she's more of a sister than a mom. But she gets all 'mom' like if I mess shit up. She's my everything and I'm so close to her, but we have fights and disagreements.
My mom turns down the radio, right in the middle of the high note catching my off guard. She giggles at my high off key note, and glances at me. Her giggles slowed down and her face turned serious, bring her hand back in the car and holding the steering wheel with both hands. " Um, I know you didn't want to move, and it's hard making friends for you-" she pauses, trying to find the right words, " But please can you try, for me" I look back at her, removing my gaze at the stars. Her face was relaxed but her eyes held worry and was silently pleading me to try. It's not that I'm anti-social, I can talk to people and do, it's just when it comes to friends I can't seem to actually let them in, or get close to them. I could have 100 friends but not one good, good friend. Hence why my mother is my best friend. " Mom, I make friends" I groan, knowing we've had this conversation like a billion times in the last month. " You know what I mean Lils" she gave me the 'duh' face and sighed " try to find good people, and who can be there for you" she looked at me then the road, sticking her gaze in front of her. I wanted to whine and complain but I know that she's right, and that I really should try. But between my Cats and hanging with my mom, and over all laziness I can't find the time. " Fine" I groan, resting my head against the window and closing my eyes. My mother cheers and turns up the radio. We still have at least two more hours before me reach our new home, so I kept my eyes closed hoping to get actually sleep.
I woke to my mom driving down a gravel driveway and yelling " we're here! We're here" she chanted over and over again. I groaned, rolling over hitting the side of her arm, " Jesus, Woman do you ever shut up" I grabbed her arms and clutched it, wrapping my arms around her's, bring it to my chest and closing me eyes. " Aye, I'm your mother, and you should respect me" she tried to sound serious but I could hear the tiny chuckles. I open one eyes and give her a 'really' look. " Mom, sweetie, honey" I cooed "I hate to break it to ya but dad's the respected one in the household" I stated, closing my eye and yawning. " Oh!" she yells, parking the car in the drive way " Speaking of your Papa, he's probably sleeping, so be quiet" My dad came up here about a week earlier to set the bed and furniture set up before we got here. I hummed in responds and reluctantly let go of her arm, and getting out of the car with her. I gaped at the large house that is now mine. It was white with a red door and black shutters, and had flowers lining along the bottom of the house. It had two rocking chairs on the pouch and stairs leading to the front door. If I'm being honest it looked like one of those perfect houses, with the perfect family, and life. Which was far from us. I went to the back seat and grabbed the large grate, that held my babies inside. Milo and Jessie were my cats, they are both from the same litter so they look kinda alike. Milo is very low-key and doesn't really care, but Jessie wants to do everything and runs around the house. Milo does a lot when it comes to Jessie, he will let her eat his food, and steal the toy he would be playing with, so it wasn't to my surprise when I found Jessie spaced out in the grate and her feet smushed Milo into a corner. She was fast asleep but Milo was awake and staring at me, begging me to let him out. I giggles and stuck my finger through the bars and scratched his head lightly.
I carried them into the house and placing them on the couch letting them out, Jessie will most likely stay in the grate for the night, but Milo pushed her legs back and got out. He stretched his legs, he looked around noticing the new surrounds before looking at the grate. He walked over to where her head was and placed it in the same place but on the outside. So their heads were touching. I 'awed' pet him for a little before my mom came stumbling in with all the bags. " Ma!" I scolded her " I would of helped" I stood up but she shook her head, dropping them on the floor and dramatically flopping on the couch. She sighed loudly, kicking her feet on the table. " Dude, you're gonna wake dad" I said, flopping besides her. Putting my legs over her's and resting my head on her shoulder. " Too late" I heard a groggy voice, come out of the darkness rubbing his eyes. " Hey, Baby" her greeted my mom, kissing her on the forehead. He pulled her up off the couch into a tight hug. Wrapping his arms protectively around her. " Hi, I've missed you" she smiled, resting her head on his chest. He mumbled a 'me too' before letting go and sitting next to me. I snuggled into my dad's side, wrapping my arms around his waist, and laid my legs on his, his arms go around my shoulder and played with my mom's hair, who's head was on my shoulder. " I missed you" I mumbled, and watch my mom pick up the remote to the T.V. Even though it was like three in the morning, we hadn't seen each other and was do for some family time. " Really, you did" he joked, playing with my foot with his. " Yeah" I agreed softly. " I missed you too" he kissed the top of my head. My mom put her head back on my shoulder and was picking through the movies.
Once we finally decided with Friends because nobody felt like a movie, my mom made popcorn, and I got the blankets, while my dad was picking the episode. " No, Joey and Rachel episodes!" My mom yelled from the kitchen, taking out three bowls. " What! No way!" I yelled back from the hallway, walking out with tree blankets and a bunch of pillows. " Fine, No Joey and Rachel, then no Ross and Rachel!" I said, sticking my tongue out at her, she gasped loudly " How dare you!" she growled, pulling the probably burnt popcorn for she can't cook for her life. " How are you my daughter" she muttered, I left the kitchen giggling running towards the living room. After taking a wrong turn or two I finally found it. I sat in the same place, I was before. Throwing all the pillows and blankets at my father, who threw them around the couch. I looked at the episode that my father picked, it was ' the one with the cat'. I looked over at my dad who was practically bouncing out of his seat with excitement, before I could say anything we hear a " Where the fuck are you" the screams from my mother trying to find her way back. " She's crazy" my dad whispers, I nod in agreement. After my mom finally found us, she looked very proud of herself for finding us, because we both refused to help her because it was too funny hearing her consist of " Hello!", " where the hell in the fucking living room", and " did you leave me, you bitch". She placed three bowls of burnt popcorn in front of us. " Honey, I love you but how did you screw up popcorn. They gave you directions" My dad asks softly, I chuckle. " Whatever" she mutters before stealing the remote from my dad and pressing play.
