Prologue

Today has been so chaotic. I was so drained, I guess that's what writing three exams on the same day can do to you. High school finals are so draining. Well, at least I had one paper remaining and that was next week. One more week till I was out of high school.

    "Ash", someone called.

I turned to see my boyfriend Bradley Dike rushing towards me.         "Do you want to come over later?" he gave me the face he gives me whenever he tries to persuade me to do something.

    I smiled "I love it when you give me that face"

I really liked him, he was such a sweet heart. It's a pity our relationship was ending soon. We'd been dating for the past three years and we'd both agreed to end things as we were going off to college.

    "I love giving you that face", he said taking my backpack.         "Are you coming or not?"

    "I'll text you if I decide to come" I said.

    "You know we'll both go off to college very soon. We need to spend more time together"

    I understood what he was saying but I had important things to do and by important things I meant I had novels to read.

    "I know and we will, I just have important things to do at home. Thanks for helping me carry my backpack" I took it from him "talk to you later?". When he nodded I gave him a goodbye kiss and got into my mom's car.

    I was finally a high school graduate and things had ended between Brad and I but I was happy we were still friends.

    "Hey Ash, snap out of it",my best friend Stephanie Ike said.

    She came over with some other friends to help me pack for college. She was such a character but I loved her. She was the extrovert, always partying, had a lot of followers on Instagram, she loved attention and she always got it. She was light skinned and was always on braids. I can't remember the last time I saw her natural hair.

    "She's probably thinking of how many parties she'll be attending" laughed Danielle Adebayo.

    She was the 'I don't care' one. She always did what she wanted when she wanted. She was tall, slim and dark skinned. A lot of people underestimated her physical strength cause of her stature but she could throw a mean punch.

    "So not possible, if we were talking about Steph it'd be understandable but Ash, no way" said Sharon Ude rolling her eyes.

    She was the introvert, she rarely attended parties, she was extremely shy. She was biracial, half Nigerian, half Canadian. she was attending college in Canada.She was the real definition of thick.

    "Look who's talking" I turned to Sharon "little Miss I hate people" I joked.

    "In my defense, people are annoying", she said smiling. We all laughed. That was our Shar.

    I turned to Steph, "When are you joining me?". We both got accepted into University of Oweri.

    "Next week, I'm sure you'd have tidied our room up"

    "Lazy ass bitch" I said tickling her. Sharon and Danielle joined.

    "Stop"she screamed, laughing "I'm going to pee". She pushed me, I dragged her down with me. She did the same to Danielle and Sharon till we were all on the floor laughing.

    "Have you guys heard this new EP that's trending?" Steph said "the singer is a teenager, about two years older than us and he's really hot."

    "What's his name?" Dannie asked.

    "Chad"

    I picked up my phone and searched for him on Instagram. He was definitely hot. Steph connected to the beats by Dre and played the song. Damn, he was good. I felt drawn to the song, I felt the emotions in his voice. I loved him.

    "I'd fuck this guy anyway I get the chance" Dannie said swaying to the music.

We all laughed.
